HOW WILL THE DODGERS LOSE TODAY?!

Everybody else must be evacuating ahead of Hurricane Irma??

Max Scherzer walked a bunch of guys and gave up his obligatory home run in the first inning to put the Nationals down 3-0, but there's something about the Nationals' offense this year that spreads the wealth so they never seem out of the game for long; even the bench guys and scrubs have been contributing. The Nats scored 1 in the first and 1 in the second, so it's 3-2 now.

No sooner do I type this than speedy Michael A. Taylor smacks an inside-the-park GRAND SLAM, with assistance from the Phillies porous defense.

Nah, I'm sitting here in central Florida waiting for it.

That was a truly horrible play by the Phillies CF.

Jorge Castillo @jorgeccastillo
The bottom of the 3rd so far: BB, E4, bobble that ruined double play chance, BB.

So 4 runs on 1 hit. Not too shlabby!

Maybe that explains all of the Georgia gear spotted in the stands at Wrigley.

That and Georgia playing at Notre Dame tomorrow and the Falcons at the Bears on Sunday.

Cubs vs Brewers, Cardinals are tied with the Brewers, Both 3 games out of the wild card, and both 5 games back of the Cubs.... who do you root for if you are a Cardinal fan???

In theory I get you root against the guy you are already tied with and concede the division, but emotionally that just feels like giving up.

(obviously first and foremost you root for your team and know that if they do their job, and with 7 games remaining against the Cubs, Everything is still technically in their own hands. )
   8. cardsfanboy Posted: September 08, 2017 at 09:21 PM (#5528942)
Professional hitter Jose Martinez with a single on a pitch low and outside, full count with the man on first running, makes it first and third with a single past the third baseman...
   9. cardsfanboy Posted: September 08, 2017 at 09:30 PM (#5528945)
Cardinal announcer now being silly, wondering if David Freese has a chance to go into the "Cardinals Hall of Fame." (the minimum requirement is three years as a member of the team, and three years retired.)

I get the love for Freese, big moments, local kid(heck he still advertises for a local cardboard re-seller called Imo's Pizza) but no, he's not a Cardinal hofer until you hit about 100 players.
   10. cardsfanboy Posted: September 08, 2017 at 09:34 PM (#5528946)
Cardinals up currently 2-0 in a game at no point in time have they looked good.
   11. Bote Man Posted: September 08, 2017 at 09:35 PM (#5528947)
Adding to the All-Y team, the Phillies have a pitcher named Yacksel Rios. This is outta control!

Yacksel
Yadier/Yadiel
Yuniesky/Yuliesky
Yunel
Yusmiero
Yangervis
Yasiel
Yasmani

I'm quite confident I'm leaving out a couple.

yngwie malmsteen, I hear he's pretty good on the axe, I'm assuming that is slang for he's a hacker.
   14. cardsfanboy Posted: September 08, 2017 at 09:43 PM (#5528950)
Now I want to see a collaboration between Yngwie malmsteen, Yanni and Yo Yo Ma.... just for the sheer absurdity.
   15. ERROR---Jolly Old St. Nick Posted: September 08, 2017 at 09:56 PM (#5528953)
WHY IN THE F**K IS TANAKA STILL IN THE GAME?????
   16. cardsfanboy Posted: September 08, 2017 at 09:57 PM (#5528954)
Jose Martinez, Professional hitter with a bases loaded single up the middle to add two more runs for the Cardinals, 4-0 in the bottom of the fifth.
   17. Nose army. Beef diaper? (CoB) Posted: September 08, 2017 at 09:58 PM (#5528955)
At this point, I'm hoping Tanaka opts out ... and the Yankees walk away.

What I really love about MLB.tv is that if I miss a particular advert, they give me 25 additional times to see it ... every. single. game.

#######. Pathetic.
   20. cardsfanboy Posted: September 08, 2017 at 10:08 PM (#5528960)
So I asked my girlfriend about who we should root for between Milwaukee and Chicago...the second I finished saying Chicago, before I could give her any reasons, her reply was "Milwaukee." so yes I'm rooting for Milwaukee today by Imperial decree.

WTH is happening in the Wash/Phil game?
   22. Bote Man Posted: September 08, 2017 at 10:43 PM (#5528964)
HardballTalk @HardballTalk
Carlos Rodon to miss remainder of season with left shoulder inflammation.

OK, I know about Rendon and Rondon, who the h3ll is this Rodon guy and why is he even in the game???
   23. Bote Man Posted: September 08, 2017 at 10:47 PM (#5528965)
WTH is happening in the Wash/Phil game?

Arm-shredder Dusty Baker had Doolittle up in the bullpen in the 8th, but went with noted home run giver-upper Shawn Kelley who did not record an out in the 9th. He gave up base hits to Hoskins and Williams; then to the surprise of no one, he gave up a 3-run circuit clout to Maikel Franco to make it an 11-10 Nats lead. THEN Dusty goes to Doolittle to get the 3K save. Dear gawd I hope the Nats clinch this weekend so they can rest the regulars, some of whom desperately need it, especially Doolittle. Lose out the rest of the season for all I care, but rest the regulars.
   24. cardsfanboy Posted: September 08, 2017 at 10:49 PM (#5528966)
Cardinal announcers (Rick Horton and Dan McLaughlin) talking about the MVP candidates and Rick says "with apologies to Giancarlo Stanton, I have just never seen him being that great of a hitter."(and Dan basically agrees with him.)

Giancarlo Stanton career vs the Cardinals. 46 games, 190 pa, .293/.389/.579/.969 11 hr, not "great" but pretty impressive.

Edit: 2017 Stanton vs the Cardinals, only 3 homeruns in 7 games and a piddly line of .333/.429/.708/1.137
This is why people don't trusts scouts and other "experts" to give opinions on players instead of facts... (literally Rick said "He just never hit 3 homeruns in four games against us." ---that was his argument against Stanton for MVP.....which of course would mean he should be touting someone who did do that.... his candidate was Arenado and his .238/.333/.524/.857 line vs the Cardinals this year--1 hr)
   25. LA Podcasting Hombre of Anaheim Posted: September 08, 2017 at 10:49 PM (#5528967)
RICKY NOLASCO IS A ####### ####.
   26. cardsfanboy Posted: September 08, 2017 at 10:56 PM (#5528968)
Thanks Bote for 23.... I looked up, assumed the game was a walk away over, then I see that both teams had double digit runs and my brain was saying "that wasn't the score a few moments ago."
   27. cardsfanboy Posted: September 08, 2017 at 10:57 PM (#5528969)
Matheny already likes Sherriff, but I'm just not seeing anything impressive, it feels more like he's been lucked by the gods of ball in play than anything else. Not that I have a problem with him using a rookie reliever, who has the best chance of overperforming from their expected performance.

#11 - Yan Gomes bounced out to Yoan Moncada earlier this week.
   29. Bote Man Posted: September 08, 2017 at 11:12 PM (#5528971)
Yoan Moncada

Add to the All-Y team list.

Jeimer Candelario started a triple play tonight. Snagged a would-be two run double down the line, stepped on third, nice throw to Kinsler, on to first for three.

Triple play and inside the park grand slam on the same day. I'd suppose that's never happened before.

10 games is a big lead, but if I'm a Dodger fan, I'd be quietly losing my mind.

Instead, I'm an Angel fan and I'm very loudly losing my mind. Twins win again?! God ####### dammit.
   33. Joyful Calculus Instructor Posted: September 09, 2017 at 01:20 AM (#5528977)
Diamondbacks lose, lowering the Dodgers' magic number for the first time since exactly 1 week ago today. It sure would be nice if the Dodgers could win at least 5 games between now and when the season ends
   34. Joyful Calculus Instructor Posted: September 09, 2017 at 01:24 AM (#5528978)
I just looked through the play by play in the Dodgers-Rockies box score. Holy #### did Yu Darvish fall apart there. Then again, that's exactly what happened to him last start, just a couple innings later this time.
   35. Bote Man Posted: September 09, 2017 at 01:27 AM (#5528979)
#11 - Yan Gomes bounced out to Yoan Moncada earlier this week.

My mistake was only scanning B-Ref for names beginning with "Ya", which omitted "Ye", "Yo" and others.

Season over.
   37. Joyful Calculus Instructor Posted: September 09, 2017 at 01:45 AM (#5528981)
I was kind of meh on giving up Calhoun to get Darvish because I liked Calhoun, but I expected Darvish to be pretty good at least rather than a dumpster fire of suck.

Probably not, but what about a grand slam by the 4th batter of the game, a home run by a pitcher, and a relief pitcher hitting into an unassisted triple play? And in a World Series game, no less.

This is one of the (many)reasons why baseball is so much better than the other sports, the sheer variety of possibilities is unrivaled. (as the saying goes, "you see something new everyday.")

OTOH it's unlikely we'll ever see the final game of a World Series played on a field with 36 ft. basepaths.
   42. Tom Nawrocki Posted: September 09, 2017 at 10:57 AM (#5529004)
The most improbable thing I've ever seen is a relief pitcher hitting a triple in the first inning.
