Granteed scores “endorsement’’ from dead DiMaggio

He might be dead, but baseball legend Joe DiMaggio apparently has an interest in the Broward County sheriff’s race.

He’s endorsing Louie Granteed.

The sheriff’s candidate emailed supporters recently, inviting them to a fund-raiser that he said was “hosted and endorsed by New York Yankee Legend Joe DiMaggio & Friends.’’

Is this more demeaning than Fred Astaire being posthumously edited into a vacuum commercial, or less?

DiMaggio will endorse anything as long as Morris Engelberg gets his cut of the action too.

The first few comments are fantastic. I would bet money that they were written by Granteed himself or by members of his staff.

Ty Cobb could have endorsed things posthumously, if he wanted to.

The endorsement is amazing enough, but how is he gonna pull off the hosting?

I guess on the plus side, he's been dead long enough he won't stink too bad.

I could give him Saul Bellow's endorsement, I shook hands with him once.

So could Ichiro.

Heh. So I decided to look up Mr. Granteed, whoever he is, and it turns out that every subpage of his campaign website other than the one for donations is password protected. Want to read his bio? Sorry, sucker! Want to volunteer for his campaign? Tough ####!

Quite a way to run a campaign...

In Chicago this would be no big deal, he in fact would have been out voting for for the guy early and often.

I liked the fifth comment
I think you're all either nuts or related to Granteed in some fashion. How rediculous! I'm voting for Lamberti. Unless of course he suddenly claims to be endorsed by Babe Ruth or something

Given how many Republicans Reagan has posthumously endorsed this should come as no surprise to anyone.

"You never heard such endorsing."
"Yes, I have."

I broke my "don't read comments on any site other than BBTF and maybe Deadspin and a few others" rule because of this and ... you hit it on the head. That's fantastic. Some poor intern was really scrambling this morning.

Eh, Joe DiMaggio already sponsors a hospital in south Florida, why not another corrupt politico?

Never saw him endorse

I hope Granteed doesn't get too comfortable, because Broward County is really more of a football area, and I hear incumbent sheriff Al Lamberti is going to be introduced at his next rally by Bronko Nagurski.

Reminds me of the Robert Klein routine regarding a commercial saying you can get every record ever made, and part of it includes a testimonial: "How do you do. My name is Conrad Jarvis and I've been dead for six years, but this offer was just so spectacular that I had to come back and tell you about it."
