Grantland: The Top Prospect Progress Poll.

Jake Odorizzi, RHP, Rays: Even in a lost season for Wil Myers, the Rays have gotten significant value from the James Shields trade thanks to Odorizzi’s performance, which one scout termed a “huge breakthrough.”

“Odorizzi could always pitch and he always had a deep arsenal, but the knock on him was always the lack of that put-away pitch,” another scout wrote. “Now we’re looking at a dude who strikes out hitters left and right with an upper 80s, low 90s fastball. The key for him has been the development of that changeup, and I think he’s done a better job of learning how to use it as the year has progressed. He really pitches well with the fastball and uses that cut-slider and lollipop curve to disrupt timing while putting away hitters with a sneaky fastball or change.”

Odorizzi has always reminded me a little of Jeff Weaver, except less of an uggo.

Odorizzi is developing into the pitcher I had hoped Dan Straily would become.

And of course by "Jeff", I meant "Jered". I absolutely cannot ever keep that straight, and Jered is a player whose stylings I have always enjoyed.

Erick Johnson has one of the worst years I've ever seen for a White Sox top prospect that was "MLB Ready". He pitched decent in a cup of coffee last year after performing well in AA/AAA. This year he was absolutely brutal in both Chicago and AAA. Brutal. They finally just shut him down last week with "shoulder fatigue".

All evidence points to a shoulder problem as guys almost never just go from that good to that awful so suddenly but not much has come out, if anything, on any injury. One thing that was obvious is that he lost a few ticks on his fastball this year only hitting 89,90.

I never liked Odorizzi as a prospect because I thought his fastball was way too straight and he left the ball up too much and I've probably haven't been so wrong on a prospect since when I was buying massive Dan Reichert stock.

Stroman is a really fun guy to watch and has a chance to be a star. Love watching him pitch.
