Grudge continues to fester between Braves, Marlins

The Braves and Marlins have some bad blood, especially concerning Ronald Acuña Jr. Around this time last year, José Ureña intentionally threw at Acuña in the first at-bat of a game, leading to a benches-clearing incident. Acuña was hit on the elbow and exited the game but was ultimately fine. Acuña’s crime? Just being good at baseball. At the time, he had homered in five consecutive games, including three games against the Marlins.

In 2019, the first-place Braves and last-place Marlins have mostly minded their own business. The Marlins, however, can certainly keep a grudge it appears. With his first pitch in the bottom of the first inning Tuesday night in Atlanta, Marlins starter Elieser Hernández hit Acuña in the hip.

I’m not sure what is more embarrassing- having a grudge match with the Marlins, or not being able to win it decisively.

So the Marlins drill the lead off hitter (come on, it was no accident) and the consequence is "next batter hit gets the pitcher and manager heaved"?

That is fine, if that is the rule we will live under. A pre-emptive strike goes unpunished, followed by protection from the ruling authority, for any retaliation. It sure seems clear what a team's behavior ought to be, going forward.

Or perhaps Snitker secretly requested that HBP, as further punishment for Acuna's not running hard on his hit against the wall, the previous game?

Plate appearance, not at-bat.

Sorry, carry on.

So, post-warning, another batter, an ex-Marlin, also gets hit by the same warned pitcher, but neither he nor manager are ejected. Weiss, now acting manager since Snitker is somehow the only person ejected that night, goes out to seemingly question why no one was ejected. They decide not to eject Weiss, any Marlins, or any of the batters who were hit.

I personally think Mattingly ordered the code red.

After reading and validating the accuracy of #4, I believe it is now open season on the Braves. Their is a bug in my mind that says Manfred wouldn't let this sort of thing go if it were Mookie Betts getting thrown at.

What a joke of an organization.

Which one, now? Probably not the Braves, but either the Marlins or MLB as a whole could fit here.

Hernandez has hit 8 batters in 57 innings this year, control doesn't seem to be a part of his game.

I hate warnings being issued in that situation though. If I'm the ump I let the other team take their shot at vengeance then move on. If you think it was intentional then toss the pitcher then and there. Issuing a warning just gives the team that took the first shot a freebie.
