Guerrero injured in dugout fight with Olivo | MiLB.com

It used to be a dog eat dog world.

Albuquerque second baseman Alex Guerrero needed surgery on his left ear after getting attacked by teammate Miguel Olivo during a dugout fight at Triple-A Salt Lake on Tuesday, and both Salt Lake police and the Dodgers are investigating.
...
Morosi said police have “gathered evidence about the incident and collected witness statements, according to Boras. Guerrero’s recovery timetable is uncertain, Boras said. It’s not clear yet how many stitches the surgery will require.”

Edit: Link fixed. Sorry, Jim.

Talk about a Dodger dog.

Btw, speaking of Alex Guerrero: He's now hitting .368/.411/.737.

It’s not clear yet how many stitches the surgery will require.

Is it just stitches? The linked article is down, but ESPN is reporting:
Guerrero's agent, Scott Boras, told the Los Angeles Times that Olivo bit off a part of Guerrero's ear. Boras told FoxSports.com his client was having plastic surgery on his ear, and police have gathered evidence and collected witness statements.

Back off Olivo, guys. He's got kids to feed.

[5] Or kids to eat.

I wonder if this could be considered grounds to terminate Olivo's contract. I'm guessing he'll get released in any case.

Olivo actually asked to be released when the Dodgers reassigned him to the minor league camp in mid-March, but Colletti convinced him to stay. He's a decent option to have for organizational depth at catcher, but I agree that it would be very difficult for him to stay in the organization.

A shame. Miguel Olivo is the answer to my favorite trivia question.

Who is the only player to hit a HR in his first AB in both the AL and NL?

The discussions of postmodernism in the Isotopes dugout have gotten out of hand.

If the Dodgers organization does release Olivo, he would fit right in down in Miami.

And there's a report that Guerrero could be out five weeks, though I'm not sure how missing a part of an ear would affect the ability to play baseball.

If there ear is damaged enough, or in the wrong place, it would make it tough to wear a hat or helmet until the stitches come out.

This is not really true. Human bites have a higher infection rate because often people don't seek treatment right away, and how most human bites are received. Most bite wounds are closed fist injuries (someone punches another person in mouth) which results in a deep wound which is more likely to get infected.

On a happier note, the Dodgers have announced that a series of cryptic hints provided by Olivo to a young FBI agent has led to the capture of notorious serial killer Buffalo Bill.

So I read that Guerrero punched him and then teammates were holding both of them back when Olivio, with his hands restrained, attacked with the other weapon he had left... I mean seems like self defense to me right?

It omitted Chris Truby, so it doesn't count.

Sorry about that. Joyful Calculus Instructor should leave these things to the experts.

With Juan Uribe going on the DL, this would have been Guerrero time. Instead we get Erisbel Arruebarrena.

And in a shocking move, the Dodgers released Olivo today.
