Halladay exits game with strained groin

Blue Jays ace Roy Halladay exited Friday night’s game against the Marlins with a strained right groin during the fourth inning. After throwing just two pitches to Florida’s Jeremy Hermida to open the frame, Halladay was met on the mound by head trainer George Poulis and manager Cito Gaston.

Halladay threw one warmup pitch in front of Gaston, who spoke briefly with the pitcher before sending him back to the clubhouse with Poulis at his side. Prior to leaving, Halladay appeared to have an issue with where his left foot was landing on the mound during his delivery.

Thankfully, everyone in Canada was watching the Stanley Cup, reducing panic.

Thanks.

I was at the game, and after the injury, my mind was swirling with various possibilities:

Forearm soreness?
The elbow?
The shoulder?

A groin injury actually comes as a relief, I think. Right? Someone wanna give me some cause for hope?

Agh! And he was going so well this year. This sucks.

No worries!
It only effects the Jays playoff shot by 4%

...though marginally speaking I guess the move from 4% to 0% is kind of significant.

Halladay is so important to the Jays, not just because now they need to replace arguably the best starter in the league with somebody who, by definition, will be their sixth-best starting optionin the organization. It's also that he throws so many innings, so deep in most games, that he takes pressure off the bullpen.

It'll be interesting to watch how the Jays respond to losing arguably the most valuable player to his team in the AL...

you mis-spelled...let's see

On the plus side, if the Brian Tallet experience has taught us anything, it's that Jason Frasor is ready and able to be an above-average starter.

Failing that... uh.... sign Pedro? Wait, that won't work, he wouldn't last 2 innings in the obscene and disgraceful ballpark the Yankees play in.

The latest word on Halladay is they expect Richmond to make a single spot start to replace him. I assume this mean's he's about to meet with Dr. James Andrews to get his arm amputated.

Also, I know things are thin, but I really wish Janssen didn't have to be in the rotation right now. I hate low K-rate starters.

halladay is really a great pitcher and one of the things i like about being in the NL central is not having to face him

dude doesn't get near enough respect he should

Which would either be Cecil or Purcey, both of whom have had starts for the Jays this year.
