Hardball Talk: Aroldis Chapman arrested in Ohio for driving 93 mph on suspended license

One day after officially being named the Reds’ closer, Aroldis Chapman is in some hot water.

According to NBC affiliate WLTW, Chapman was arrested in Ohio early Monday morning after speeding while driving with a suspended license.

Chapman was pulled over after being clocked at 93 mph in his 2010 Mercedes S63. That probably doesn’t seem very fast to him since his average fastball checks in at 96.7 mph this season, but most normal people consider that excessive and reckless.

Grove City is 100 miles from Cincinnati. None of our business, I guess, but I wonder what he was doing way up here right after getting back from a road trip and on the night before a home game. Most of us go out of our way to not be in Columbus if it can be helped.

That's not that far when you're driving at 93 MPH (or probably faster at some points).

Apparently he's lost velocity since returning to the bullpen.

Maybe Chapman wanted to see if his Mercedes could beat the charter plane back to Cincinnati?

Or trying to outrun his lawsuit?

If this keeps the torture in Cuba story off the front burner I'm all for it.

In related news, Jamie Moyer was pulled over for going 42 MPH in the left lane with his blinker on.

I'm gonna get one with 64 MPH to mark my best ballpark speed pitch effort.

Anyone know what his license was originally suspended for?

Failure to maintain lane.

Oh wait, that's Henry Rodriguez. nvm.

Weak. I expect him to be driving 105 mph next time he's pulled over.
