Hardballtalk: Hiroyuki Nakajima says he signed with the A’s because Billy Beane is “extremely sexy and cool”

Things got a little steamy today at the press conference introducing new A’s shortstop Hiroyuki Nakajima:

Susan Slusser@susanslusser
Nakajima says he wanted to sign with #Athletics because “Billy Beane is extremely sexy and cool.”

18 Dec 12

Susan Slusser@susanslusser
And now Billy Beane calls Nakajima “extremely sexy and cool.” Best press conference ever. #Athletics

This puts the hard in hardballtalk.

Does he realize he's not Billy Bean?

I guess this means Todd Jones won't be coming out of retirement to join the Athletics.

Todd Jones most definitely won't be coming out.

Sounds like Nakajima saw the Moneyball movie and got a crush on Brad Pitt. Ick.

Obligatory: Mike Piazza might though.

He seems totally adorable (from the rest of the press conference)

Beane should have never written that 50 shades of green book...

Beane is actually better looking than Pitt. Now I'm a hetero guy, so maybe my opinion doesn't count, but my girlfriend thinks so too. One of the few (only?) instances where the real guy is better looking than the guy playing him in the movie.

Paul DePodesta is better looking than Jonah Hill, if that counts.

Jimmy Piersall was better looking than Anthony Perkins.

Ty Cobb was much better looking than Pete Rose.

So... does he mean lack of bathtubs, lack of Japanese style bathtubs, or simply the lack of size in American tubs?
   25. JE (Jason Epstein) Posted: December 19, 2012 at 12:59 PM (#4328564)
Brent Jennings, who played Ron Washington in the film, sure doesn't look like he was "experimenting" with hardcore drugs in his mid-50s.

Beane should have never starred in that movie.

Art Howe has Phillip Seymour Hoffman licked.

Can we please, please not talk about licking Philip Seymour Hoffman?
   28. attaboy Posted: December 19, 2012 at 02:24 PM (#4328674)
Beane? Do you mean Brad Pitt or am I missing a jk? Pitt was good enough and without him, the movie might not ever have been made, therefore, I accept Pitt in this role, for all his faults.
   29. Traderdave Posted: December 19, 2012 at 02:32 PM (#4328686)
Off topic (or maybe not?) Ripken/Elroy Face is by far my favorite Primer handle. Vida Blew Over the Legal Limit is a close second.

Attaboy, yes, that was a joke.

Traderdave - Thanks! I'm sure it's nonsensical to a lot of folks who weren't around age 12 in 1989, but hey.

In fairness, though - it really depends on what sort of hair gel he's using at the moment...

You'd probably get much more profound results from licking Charlie Sheen.

Ichiro, feeling threatened by hilarious translated quotes, will no doubt be on his A-game during the news conference saying he resigned with the Yankees.

It can't be "by far your favorite" if there exists a close second. Nyah.
