WHO WILL THE ANGELS TRADE TODAY?!

Quite a few trades today, wonder if any teams will be fielding less than 25 active players. It's something that can happen time to time in the NBA.

Brandon Crawford just came up with the bases loaded and nobody out, with the Giants up 2-1 in the 8th, and saw three pitches---called strike one, called strike two, and called strike three.

That really shouldn't happen.

Sale's on the 10 day DL, so at least the Yanks will dodge one bullet tactical nuclear weapon, since he'll miss Thursday's start against them.

That... was an ugly half-inning (or 2/3, more accurately) for Steven Matz.

Also Wilmer took himself out of the game -- just kinda wandered off the field. No word yet what that's about. (It might've just been out of disgust.)

Mets trail, 10-0, in the 2nd inning - utterly justified the front office's decision to stand pat.

I understand the Atlantic League's Long Island Ducks went hard after Jose Reyes, but the Mets didn't relent.

Remember when the Mets were like 9-1 to start the season?

Murphy having a nice game at the dish so far...

Maybe THIS is the start of the Nats run everyone is predicting. That lineup sure looks solid on paper.

Just swell,

Sox down 2-0, NY up. Sale on DL with the dreaded shoulder inflammation.

Nothing 2 cortisone injections and a bit of physical therapy won't fix. I get this done on my left shoulder about once every 6 months. Totally bunged on a nasty mountain bike fall about 5 years ago and it flames up every so often.

Matt Carpenter with his 22nd career leadoff homerun.... Currently tied for 34 of all time...

The real leaderboard is Rickey with 81, Soriano with 54, Biggio with 53, Active player and recently traded Kinsler with 48.... Granderson with 47, Rollins 46, Brady Anderson 44, Ichiro 37, Bobby Bonds 35....

Mets are one of only 9 teams not to use a position player as a pitcher - yet - in 2018.

announcers say Mets never did so in their first 30 seasons, relenting with Bill Pecota (PECOTA) in 1992.

Nationals 17 for 29 so far, with 3 walks
16-0 after 4 innings

Daniel Murphy has 43 RBI in 43 games vs Mets, his former team
also 11 HR and a .393 AVG

So everyone made a big deal about the Cardinals new acquisition being activated to the majors, and it appears that isn't the case, O'Neil promoted to the majors, and starting in CF tonight.... Bader can't catch a break.

Wish I could pitch like Madison, but alas no. Do like a bit of mountain biking though, it's just one of those sports(like snowboard half-pipe or MotoX) where you fall/crash a bit and get injured. Unfortunately at 53 I don't heal as well as I used to so the wife gives me grief when I hobble around like I just went 10 rounds in a UFC match.

Cardinals broadcasts did one of those 'here is a list of guys, three hofers, and a guy not in the hofer, who make an exclusive company.'

Players with 100 steals, 2,000 hits, 380+ hr and .310 ba...

You get Ruth, Gehrig, Vlad and Walker.. .

On the hits Walker has 2160, Vlad 2590, Gehrig 2721, Ruth 2873.... Walker is not really in the same company in this category as the other three.

On hr Walker has 383, Vlad 449, Gehrig 493, Ruth 714....again not really in the same company.

Steals he does have a decided advantage 230 to Vlad's 181, Gehrig's 102 and Ruth's 123...

and of course avg, he's the lowest in the group, with his .313, vs Vlad's .318, vs Gehrig's .340 and Ruth's .342...seriously how can you even create a list like this and think it has any value or reflection of reality. (and I'm a guy who thinks Walker is probably a hof worthy player...but c'mon this isn't remotely indicative of that)

they are doubling down, listing Walker's career stats in several categories, and pointing out who he bettered in those categories who are in the hof (Gold gloves 7---more than Pucket... hits, hr's or rbi's more than Dimaggio or Snider or Klein etc.... Walker was a great player, you don't need to belittle his accomplishments by doing the lowest common denominator argument... heck you guys point to Dizzy Dean's hof uniform all the time, and if everyone who had more career wins than Dean did was in the hall, it would be a ginormous hof)

When Drew Pomeranz gives you 5 and only coughs up 2 runs, you would hope the Red Sox hitters would manage to plate a few runs as those kinds of starts by Drew have been rare.

Mets announcing crew breaking out another edition of "Media Guide Musings" as the Mets bat in the 8th inning while trailing 19-1.

you can see the game, but the broadcast is simply the announcers solemnly reading snippets from the media guide - with ceremonial, BBC-style music in the background.

tonight, it's the postseason section, which of course begins in 1969.

these announcers are like Steve Carlton winning 27 games for those 59-win Phillies. what a mismatch!

Well you may be a little off there my friend. However the one advantage they do have over NY in close games is that they do tend to put the ball in play more often and things happen when the ball is in play.

well, Mets trail 25-1 in top of the 9th and Conforto leads off with a double.

Reyes singles, but stops at third - recalling the ancient baseball edict that when you trail by 24 runs, you never want to make the first out on the bases.

Nats get a forceout while surrendering a run, seems like a good tradeoff when the lead is still 23.

and new Met Austin Jackson with a 2-run shot - are we are on the verge of history?

I'd gladly settle for that if the Yanks ever let Gray start again against the Red Sox.

But you wouldn't. Yankees fans are far more modest in their wishcasting. "Help the needy, not the greedy" has always been our motto.

Surprisingly, the 25 runs the Nationals scored aren't the most in D.C. baseball history.

The Washington Senators beat the Boston Beaneaters 26-12 on June 22, 1894.

C'mon, Hugh, you know you have to take me seriously, but not literally.

Or maybe it's the other way around. I'm an old man and I can't always remember how that thing works.

They have pills for that now.

The headline that popped up during the Phillies game was "Zimmerman sets D.C. record with 1695 career hits". I thought, interesting, they compared him to other D.C. players, instead of the Expos. Turns out that nope, that was wrong, he broke the Expos record.

D.C. hits record (unless there was someone who got a lot of hits with both the pre-Minnesota Senators and the pre-Texas Senators, who I don't have time to look for)

2889 Sam Rice
2291 Joe Judge
2100 Clyde Milan
1993 Mickey Vernon
1828 Buddy Myer
1751 Ossie Bluege
1696 Ryan Zimmerman
1659 Goose Goslin
1563 Buddy Lewis
1544 Cecil Travis
1521 Eddie Yost

Nationals hits record

1696 Ryan Zimmerman
917 Ian Desmond
865 Bryce Harper
781 Jayson Werth
749 Anthony Rendon

The funniest moment in last night's Nats-Mets game was when Zimmerman faked a charge of the mound after Reyes hit him with a pitch.
Tempers flare in D.C. after Ryan Zimmerman's drilled with a 54 MPH heater.
