Harrisburg Senators player charged for sex with teen

A professional baseball player on the Harrisburg Senators minor league team has admitted that he twice had “sexual acts” with a 15-year-old Elizabethtown girl, police say.

Elizabethtown Borough Police on Wednesday charged Garrett Guzman, 25, with one misdemeanor charge, corruption of minors.

...Guzman admitted to the offense at the station, the detective said.

“It’s a serious problem. It’s happening more and more,” Martin said. “Older guys are having sex with girls in their teens.”

He said the fact Guzman was a professional athlete might have made the girl “more susceptible to any kind of advances” from Guzman and that she might have had “stars in her eyes.”

Is Guzman a Dukes protege?

I admit that when I first read this headline, I thought Guzman had to like, pay in cash.

It's not just the way you read it. That's what it pretty clearly says.

He was charged with something, not for it.

Edit: Looking at it again, there is a second way of reading it, but in that reading he's unambiguously guilty.

Paul LoDuca's hoping they don't check all the phone calls the girl received.

Classy. Doesn't this guy have an apartment, or are 25-year-olds in AA still living with host families?

I know it's Harrisburg, but still, "stars in her eyes"? State legislators are now stroking their chins and musing on the implications of that.

If there is artificial turf, it's best to use a designated hitter.

“stars in her eyes.”

I can understand that teen girls may not be up on their MLEs (214/268/356 for Guzman) but don't our sex ed classes at least teach that 25-year-olds in AA aren't prospects.

"Baby, five years from now I'm gonna be the hitting coach for the Greeneville Astros, and I want you to be there with me and share that lifestyle."

Actually, that sounds like Guzman would be the one reaching for the stars in this case.

His taste for young girls aside, what would likely be the eventual fate of a 25 year old nonprospect once his baseball time runs out?
   39. Crispix Attacks Posted: September 12, 2008 at 11:11 PM (#2939790)
I picked that name at random, but it seems that even the Greeneville Astros would probably have an ex-major leaguer as their hitting coach, although upon further inspection they don't actually have a hitting coach anyway. Their pitching coach is Travis Driskill, which is a semi-demi-recognizable name.

He could definitely coach a high school team, and then if he was good at coaching he could move up in the coaching career.

It does seem that, running up and down the list of major league managers/coaches, that major league experience, even if it were sucky, is a major foot in the door.

Wrong. Like most sane places, though, they have some consideration for the age difference between the two individuals. Guzman would still be a felon.

The age of consent in most of Europe is lower than in the US, though, ranging for the most part from 14 to 16.
