Hart stepping down as Indians GM

The man who started the long term contract for free-agents-to-be trend, steps down.  The timing is weird, although Hart tries to explain it.

In a Gammons article a few weeks ago he mentioned that unnamed Cleveland brass were showing their revenue forecasts to him claiming that by 2004 they'd be below the median in revenues. I am sure they were blowing smoke up his skirt knowing that he'd print it without any questions, but there is a grain of truth to the fact that teams that are trying to get by on a revenue stream that's predominantly gate-based will likely be passed by TV contract teams. Moreso, in fact, when your new stadium is ten years old and other teams in your region have far newer parks (Det, Mil).
