Well the Reds are interested. Is there something I should know about why you want rid of him?

Darin Mastroianni is my favorite player in baseball. He's currently their 4th outfielder. Trading Span lets him play every day for the rest of the year.

Sox may be acquiring lefty Craig Breslow.

Dear Terry Ryan,

Please trade Denard Span.

Sincerely,

Anonymous Twins Fan Who Is Not Related To Darin Mastroianni

I can only hope he goes before tonight's game. The catch Span made last night on Rios was absurd. He seems to kill the Sox.

I suspect he may be lying about the relation to Darin Mastroianni.

The price for Breslow appears to have been Matt Albers and Scott Podsednik. That's a minor win, I think.

Zack Cox back to MIA for Mujica... seems like a decent get for a MR.

Someone for Gibby to play in front of Upton?

Tigers working on Alfonso Soriano, but the money is a hang-up. I would guess they've already gotten his approval?

Now a done deal. Interesting to see how these picks are valued.

I think its a sign that Scott Podsednik is still playing baseball at the Major League level, which I was unaware of.

He was actually in Pawtucket. He did play on the Red Sox earlier this year when they had 6 OFers on the DL.

If you believe the rumor mill, he balked at using Daniel Straily in a Chase Headley deal.

Soriano suddenly caught fire - but latest is that the Cubs still have the Dempster ball in the air, STILL talking Garza, and both the Cubs-Tigers figure Soriano will clear waivers post-4PM, so no rush there.

As I said in another thread, too much success would be a bad thing for the A's. Anything that might make people come to the games. While I doubt the FO is upset that the team is in contention, doing anything to further that cause is not part of the business plan.

He's just got one more year of arb left, not any sort of long-term deal, right? I wouldn't be interested in eating much if the return is DY without some moderately lukewarm bauble in accompaniment.

   140. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: July 31, 2012 at 03:41 PM (#4197359)
I don't really see the point of dumping Soriano if the Cubs are going to pick up most of the money AND get very little in return. Like others have said, he's played well this season. It's not as though he's putting up a campaign similar to 2009. At this point, I've got no qualms about the Cubs holding on to him, especially since he's not really blocking the way of anyone on the current roster.

So Gorkys Hernandez has been traded 3 times before making MLB (other than a cup of coffee with the Pirates this year). Tigers to Braves; Braves to Pirates; Pirates to Marlins.

Probably - but I'd say it depends on whether the Tigers were giving anything back. If there was even a lottery ticket or two coming back to the Cubs, I'd agree -- but if it was just say, Young or some other nothing -- then the Cubs don't need to dump Soriano just to save a few bucks. Not saying I wouldn't save a few bucks if I could, but I don't think I'd toss in Campana either. He's a wonderful 5th OF in my mind. I love 5th OFers that are really fast.
   166. Pops Freshenmeyer Posted: July 31, 2012 at 04:02 PM (#4197391)
Well, Soriano probably wasn't bringing in much. Campana might very well have been the most valuable property in trade feom a performance/$ standpoint.

I am rather surprised at the lack of DeJesus action this year. He has been having a good enough season to upgrade some contenders but I didn't notice a single rumor anywhere.

When Dirks returns, the Tigers will have 3 LHH outfielders (w/ Berry and Boesch) to play in the corners. Campana doesn't seem like a fit there.

OK - Christian Villanueva and Kyle Hendricks coming back for Dempster.

I suppose that beats a supp pick. Would have rather had Delgado, but Dempster screwed us out of that. Now, hopefully he stinks up Arlington and only Atlanta offers him a contract this winter.

I like this idea.

If the Yankees are really going to run McGehee out there, they might as well given Nunez another shot. Although I freely concede that the first time Nunez airmails a throw I will be foaming at the mouth and ready to send him back to Scranton if not the moon.
