Houston Chronicle: Ausmus homer helps give Astros win over Braves

Saying goodbye wasn’t easy, even for the stoic Ausmus, who admitted getting as emotional as he can get during a pregame video tribute that mocked his lack of hitting.

As was often the case in his 10 years as an Astro, though, Ausmus got the final word. Only this time he punctuated it with his bat, drilling a two-run home run off former teammate Mike Hampton in the third inning to finish the 2008 season with a 3-1 victory over the Atlanta Braves.

“It’s amazing how that worked out,” Lance Berkman said of Ausmus’ home run. “So much of baseball is fraught with disappointment, but every once in a while there’s a moment when you say, ‘that’s justified and that’s how it should be.’ For him to hit that home run today was just a great way to go out. I mean, that’s all you can say about it.”
...
Ausmus isn’t ruling out playing in 2009 if the San Diego Padres or Los Angeles Dodgers call.

I remember reading this line from a Dartmouth teammate: "Brad got more ass than a toilet seat."

After reading these comments I couldn't resist googling him to see what the fuss was all about.

i would guess you'd have to be female or gay to see what all the fuss is about

No need to explain, BC - when someone is hot, they're hot.
And it's nice to see his hotness transcends racial boundaries. White women, black women, Vietnamese women - they all want in Ausmus' pants. He's a uniter, not a divider.

Reminds me of watching a Brewers-D'backs game earlier this season.
(Gabe Kapler steps into the batters' box.)
Me: Gabe the Babe!
Wife: Whoa. He's hot.
(pause)
Me: Well, yes, hence his nickname.

I suspected that, but I couldn't resist looking anyway. You were right of course.

1.) Thank you for bringing that Brad Ausmus tribute video to my attention. I missed it the first time. EVERYBODY HERE ON BTF NEEDS TO WATCH THIS, IT IS THE FUNNIEST DAMN THING IMAGINABLE. Bagwell, Biggio, and Oswalt are hilarious dishing on Ausmus's "issues." You rarely see a baseball franchise demonstrating a sense of humor in its official capacity like this, which makes it all the better.

2.) I had my girlfriend look at a picture of Ausmus. Dammit, dammit, dammit...she think he's hot too.

Video is awesome.

Brad is indeed hot.
   15. Suff Posted: October 01, 2008 at 05:17 AM (#2962099)
The best line of the video was a line by Oswalt after the video had switched to "serious"--something like, "Thanks for all those times you bunted guys over for me." Hilarious.

(I would have posted the video as a new blog topic, but I don't know how, or if I am able, to do that).

Brad Ausmus singlehandedly killed many fantasy baseball teams I've had over the years
   17. meatwad Posted: October 01, 2008 at 05:57 AM (#2962119)
i swear ausmus always hit at least 1 home run against the cubs each series
   18. base ball chick Posted: October 01, 2008 at 01:47 PM (#2962293)
yeh, the one hr i remember best besides the one to tie game 5 was the one he hit against maddux at wrigley with the wind blowing IN to break up a 1 hit shutout. it was the only hard hit ball of the game

- and yeh, i LOVED the video. it got a lot of laughs - i loved the line about

brad. the babe. barry.

you should have seen batting practice - brad was hitting balls all OVER - some of them got out to the OF

- and esoteric,
all that means is your gf is a straight woman. you show a female brad and she sez - like whatever - then you best show her pics of ellen degeneris and melisssa etherige just to see because you KNOW something different about her

I think my favorite line is Bagwell, talking about how a lot of people have won Gold Gloves for their hitting and "that's obviously why Brad won his."
   20. Delorians Posted: October 01, 2008 at 02:04 PM (#2962315)
The video is awesome. The world needs more lighthearted humor like this.
