HoVG: John Rocker Shows Up in Cooperstown… “Survivor” Up Next

Well, guess I can add gutless Ryan Klesko to my mierda list.

ku

This year, however, is a little different.  Probably thinking there’s a way to cash in on the glut of Atlanta Braves fans making the trip north…there’s also John Rocker.  And, sure, it’d be easy to suspect that Rocker is in town to support his former teammates Greg Maddux and Tom Glavine and skipper Bobby Cox, but, it’s Rocker…and we know that’s not how dude operates.

Rocker (alongside another former Brave Ryan Klesko) was holding down his patch of sidewalk selling books, posing for pictures, signing autographs and, naturally, telling folks to “Speak English”.

I am very sorry I was not there today to buy that shirt and set it on fire in front of him. Maybe tomorrow.

Pathetic. Obligatory.

This is expected behavior from Rocker. He's a true asshat's asshat. But while there were warning signs with Ryan Klesko - he was fond of riding along on "COPS" like SWAT team assaults on neighborhoods and always fond of big boomsticks - I am still quite disappointed in Ryno. A long favored player falls from the graces today.

I like that Repoz found a pic of Rocker which also has a "Captain 2 Clutch" t-shirt in it.

Klesko seems like a garden variety redneck while Rocker is simply nutso.

Nice of Papelbon to stop by too.

I went looking for the same thing.

It's the same site...please try and pay better attention.

What, no Confederate flags? Shocking.

And yes Ryan Klesko, welcome to the 'piece of human garbage' list. Seriously, what the #### is wrong with people. Rocker is raffling off 'a night out drinking with John Rocker' at five bucks a pop. American white people scare the #### out of me.

someone should enter dial into that raffle.

Racist.

I can't believe Klesko was dumb enough to get caught up in something like this. This was not well thought out on his part.
   16. Yellow Tango Posted: July 27, 2014 at 06:20 AM (#4758309)
I'm not sure the Klesko hate is really justified. This was part of a 6-person signing thing, I think. Walking through Cooperstown yesterday, I remember seeing a sign with the Rocker and Klesko signings that also had a few other names on it (definitely Wohlers, maybe Orlando Cepeda?). Rocker was just one member of a much larger group.
   17. Barnaby Jones Posted: July 27, 2014 at 07:02 AM (#4758312)
Yeah, I'm not really sure "being near John Rocker in a photo" is a hangable offense.

Particularly given that Klesko is angling his body away from Rocker and whoever's with him, just kind of absorbed in his phone. Not to get all Bill Simmons body language doctor on this one, but the photo shows two guys who happen to be signing at the same table, not two guys pitching the same agenda.
   19. Brian White Posted: July 27, 2014 at 10:12 AM (#4758344)
Yeah, Klesko was just sitting at the same table, because that was how the autograph schedule was done. Later in the afternoon, Marquis Grissom was sitting in between Rocker and Klesko, signing autographs, and I don't think anyone would accuse Grissom of being a supporter of Rocker's redneck crusade.

To a psychotic red diaper doper baby, being a white American who doesn't have the "correct" view about something is a hangable offense.

Says the guy who routinely calls those who disagree with him "psychotic red diaper doper babies".

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
John Rocker wishes to publicly disassociate himself from Joey B.'s thoughts and statements: "Any perceived connection would be damaging to my reputation."

#22 was great, but I have to say that #12 really is almost self-parodyingly stupid, from a Primate who should know better. Even if John Rocker is an ass (and make no mistake, he most certainly is), the mere act of associating with him does not make a person a "piece of human garbage." That's the sort of language that any sane, emotionally well-balanced human being limits to rapists, mass-murderers, child molesters, and neoconservatives. The fact that, as it turns out, Klesko just happened to be the guy occupying the chair next to Rocker at a six-person signing only makes #12's mindless rage that much more embarrassing.

"Robert in Manhattan Beach" is definitely the most unhinged Jacobin we have around here. This dude would have made Che Guevara a little nervous.

The non-use of RDDP (note: Red Diaper Doper Baby, of course, not Ray Damned DiPerna) gives me a smidgen of hope.

Given that this is a group signing table I rescind my disappoint and return Kleskos bat flip to its proper place of honor.

They have white people in other countries? Gots to get me a passport some time.
By the way, this is one (or two) guy out of 300,000,000.
