It would obviously be ideal if teams could make these decisions with "Who is the best player?" as the only guideline. I understand the dozens of reasons why that isn't the case--and perhaps why it shouldn't be the case--but still. It must suck for a guy like Diaz, who's busted his ass to warrant a spot on the opening day roster, only to miss out on it for business concerns (salary, 40-man roster considerations, etc).

I once wrote up a music version of this based on Guess Who, The Who, The Band, Yes, maybe one or two others (The The might have come in somewhere) and closing off with 3rd Bass!

EDIT: I won't be surprised if I ripped off a deep childhood memory of Firesign Theatre or Cheech & Chong.

Close. The mostly forgotten "Credibility Gap", which had an amazing cast but little mindshare (Michael McKean, David L Landers, Albert Brooks, Harry Shearer among others.) Shearer (SNL, Spinal Tap, The Simpsons) and Landers (Squiggy and a future baseball scout) did the rock version of Who's On First with the Who, the Guess Who and Yes, with a great closing line.
