Ignoring eras is an error - The Boston Globe

One of these sounds much more fun than the others.

I say there are three Home Run Titans. Babe was the champ of the Booze and Broads Era. Hank was the champ of the Transition Era. Barry is the champ of the Steroids Era.

I thought this was a good column. Era means everything. Comaparing Ruth and Bonds is like comparing Jack Johnson to Lennox Lewis. I'm not sure it does much good. And, hey, does anybody really think Cy Young was better than Roger Clemens? Well, actually, sure they do. But most of us would likely rather have Clemens and career wins has nothing do with it.
