Indians legend Bob Feller being treated for acute myeloid leukemia

“I’m just trying to be practical about it,’’ Feller said from the Progressive Field pressbox Sunday afternoon. “It’s curable—but not always. Only time will tell. The prognosis is: So far, so good.’‘

Best of luck, Bob.

Suck it up. Rub some dirt on those white blood cells and get back out there.

I'm fine. And get off my lawn.

All the best Bob.

With luck, he'll be able to come to terms with this. Leukemia is one of the most treatable cancers. Of course, his age will have a lot to do with it, but he seems okay otherwise, and, like or not, it would be ashamed for a man to check out who so obviously has all his mental faculties. Too bad it couldn't have been caught in the chronic stage. For CML often all you have to take is a pill once a day.

Best of luck to Feller. I remember seeing, when the news came out originally, that the median survival time for leukemia patients over 80 was like 9 months. Hope he beats the odds.

I think everyone should be immortal. Even the grumpy people like Feller.

Being grumpy in old age might be a survival tactic.

At almost 92, he couldn't have a really long life expectancy before the leukemia, anyway . But, then, he is in otherwise good health.

I think everyone should be immortal.

The only thing I have to look forward to is dying.

A teammate of Feller in Feller's first year in the majors (and this is from one of those books of interviews with old baseball players from 20 years ago or so) tells a neat story about the 17-year old rookie. As I remember it, this teammate and Feller were going to go to the park together, so the guy goes to Feller's room at the hotel where he is staying at. Feller leaves the room to do something and the guy notices a number of balls piled up with Feller's signature all over them. Bob had been practicing writing his autograph. For some reason I like that story. The kid had some swagger. He knew he was somebody.
