There are 58 players in the history of baseball with over a .400 OBP…Jason Giambi is about to make it 57.
It’s not often that a player that will be 43 years old on opening day 2014 has basically an open roster spot if he chooses to take it.
That sounds like the offer that Indians DH Jason Giambi will have on the table for next season, as both GM Chris Antonetti and manager Terry Francona said Monday they would love to have Giambi back in 2014 with the Tribe.
“We would like to continue our relationship with ‘G’ probably as long as he would like to,” Francona said Monday.
...If Giambi for whatever reason does decide to hang it up, Antonetti stated he will have a spot to come back and be a part of the Indians in a coaching capacity.
“If Jason, once he gets to that point where he no longer wants to play we’d love to have him with this organization,” Antonetti said.
Much like what Giambi already stated though, Antonetti knows that ‘Big G’ wants to be on the bench as a player, not a coach, going forward.
“I know right now his sights are set on playing next year,” Antonetti said. “We’d love to have him back.”
