Cherington: "Ok, Billy, so Reddick for Bailey it is."

Beane: "You got a...deal..(stifled laughter)..I'm sorry, I...I can't do this..take somebody, take uhhh...take Ryan Sweeney."

I wouldn't trade Brandon Inge for Albert Pujols straight up! 11 runs. Wow. I forgot what it's like to have you team score 11 runs. And Reddick looks a player, but it's not like Ryan Sweeney isn't getting the job done, too.

Sweeney is getting the job done because he's been incredibly lucky with a nearly .500 BABIP and he never faces LHP.

Enjoy it while it lasts!

One thing WAR doesn't seem to take into account is 'fear of an arm'. If Reddick prevents runners from going 1b-3b by being Josh Reddick, he gets no credit for it.

Sure, but if it can't be measured, it's not important.

That's what she said!

Really enjoying the arrogant Tigers' fans who were so boldly proclaiming an easy 95 wins kvetching endlessly over their impotent offense and the little surge from their former whipping boy Inge.

Guess what Tigers fans, you had a ton of luck last year that isn't likely to happen again. Sure you might have "improved your team on paper" but probably 5/6 of the MLB could say that.

Except it does count that.

from the BB-Ref glossary:
Outfield Arms

For outfield arms, I look at an outfielder's rate of holding, allowing advancement, and throwing out baserunners compared to league average for several situations. The situations include runners tagging from bases, advancing first to third or second to home on singles, and first to home on doubles. It also accounts for miscellaneous assists (batter out at first, or trying to advance) and advancement errors.

I think of all the unmeasurable things the heads at sports network talk about, "Fear of an arm" would register pretty high on things we can agree exists and is important.

edit: Thanks Randy, I didn't know that.

The Red Sox are going to make a lot of teams look better than they are this year.

Oh, man. Never knew we were arrogant. Must admit part of me is perversely amused that all the Inge haters are losing their minds right now. If Raburn gets released/moved and goes on one of his hot streaks the people that call in the radio around here will have to finally be institutionalized.

Oh, man.

Yeah, #8 is pretty douchey.

Watching Inge clobber his former team is a fun story. Watching Reddick blow up is...less fun.

Yeah, who exactly are these arrogant Tigers fans who thought we'd stroll to a title? I thought we;d come in between 88-92 wins and maybe win a playoff round, maybe more in Victor comes back and we add another reliable starter (either from internal improvement or bringing someone in.) Still seems pretty reasonable.

By the way, before you overdose on schadenfreude, you might consider that the Tigers are 16-16. After 32 games last year, the Tigers were... 15-17, and 7 games out of first.

Good for Brandon Inge - I was hoping his remarkable career had yet another twist in it, and it certainly did.
