Inside the Rockies: Ringolsby: CarGo Arrives in St. Louis Friday

Tracy Ringolsby reports that the Rockies have recalled Carlos Gonzalez and he will join the team in St. Louis:

The left-handed-hitting outfielder acquired as part of the package from Oakland for Matt Holliday will join the Rockies in St. Louis on Friday….

Gonzalez forced the issue. He is hitting .339 with 10 home runs, 12 doubles, seven triples and 59 RBI in 47 games at Colorado Springs…

Asked about the crowded outfield, Tracy said, `That will be what I have to figure out. I accept that challenge.”

CarGon’s other big improvement is his BB/SO ratio:  22:31.  Minorleaguesplits.com gives this slash line for his MLE for Coors Field:

.294 / .356 / .510

I appreciate with the use of "CarGon" to disambiguate Carlos Gonzalez from Carlos "CarGom" Gomez.

Yeah, "CarGon" seems better. Did he have a nickname in Oakland? Ringolsby actually used "Cargo."

ancient chinese secret, huh?

CarGo is a fitting nickname for a guy whose game is speed.

CarGon is better for a player who should hit some homers, especially in Colorado.

Car gone! Car gone!

Jim Tracy just loves to use young players. Like Jason Phillips. And Mike Edwards.

I'm with Win Butler on any of these nicknames for Gonzalez or Gomes.

CarGon, take me away!

Any nickname that's just a derivative of the player's name is really, really lame.

When he steals a bag it's grand carsony.

Okay, that's really bad. Sorry.

Agreed. Especially these types. The ARods, the IRods, CarGo, CarGon, D-Wade. Just stop.

Ugh. Golden Sombrero tonight.

Season numbers: 9 for 46, 14 K, 3 BB (all in one game), .245 OBP, .304 SLG.

And Jim Tracy has been playing him, Fowler, and Ian Stewart (all young players) pretty much everyday. (Gonzalez has been sitting against some most lefties, allowing Spilborghs some playing time.)

I think he wore out his welcome tonight. I'm all for playing the young guys, but Seth Smith is so much better than Gonzalez right now (.298/.422/.488). The Rockies are in an actual race now, just a half game back in the wild card, and they need to put their best team on the field.

By the way, none of the dire predictions for what Tracy was going to do to this team have come through. Puck, have you seen Tracy try to grab any of the credit for what the Rockies have done since he took over? Mostly, he's just been saying that these guys had had this kind of streak two years ago, and they know what they're doing.

So it still looks like the best player the Dbacks dumped in the Haren trade never actually made on the A's roster...
And mind you, I like Anderson... but the other 5 players the A's got look pretty fringy to me right now.

I was just looking at the Haren trade myself. A good case of the A's being way too trigger happy to make a trade.

Was Haren willing to sign an extension in Oakland? I assumed he was since I remember reading that the D'Backs extension with Haren superseded a previous contract.
