International Baseball Roundup (Aug 27, ‘10)

LITTLE LEAGUE WORLD SERIES:
Yesterday’s games-
Texas 7, Washington 5 (Texas advances to US final, Washington eliminated)
Hawaii 7, Georgia 4 (Hawaii avoids elimination)

Today’s game-
Hawaii vs. Georgia (elimination game, winner to US final)

ASIA:
Alex Ramirez has set a new record in Japan for consecutive seasons with 100+ RBIs. His 8 straight years surpasses Oh’s 7.

Another record was set, as Yakult Swallows righty Yoshimori Sato threw a fastball at 161 kilometers per hour, the fastest recorded pitch by a Japanese pitcher in NPB. 161 kilometers/hour is about 100 MPH, which suggests to me that the Japanese don’t “juice” their radar guns.

Korean games yesterday.

There will be a “Cross-Strait Cup” between China and Taiwan/Taipei/Formosa/the Republic of China/etc starting next year.

AMERICAS:
The coaching staff for Team USA at the PanAm game qualifiers is led by Ernie Young, who will be managing. Other coaches include Kirk Champion, Leon Durham and Jay Bell.

The Voice of America looks at Venezuelans in Baseball Academies.

EUROPE:
In Holland, Door Neptunus awaits the winner of the L&D Amsterdam vs. Correndon Kinheim series, which Amsterdam is leading 2-1.

A look at the upcoming British championships.

OCEANIA/MISC.:
Nothing today.

GLOBAL:
A article on “Beep Baseball”.

What will be the Cross-Strait Cup trophy? A metal outline of Quemoy and Matsu? (A little 1960 nostalgia, ladies and gentlemen.)
