stat of the day: WHO IS THE DOMINANT RBI MAN

Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig are tied for 2nd in "most times leading the league in RBI", with 5 each. Many others led in RBI 4 times.
Babe and Lou are also tied for 2nd in "most times in the top 3 of the league in RBI", with 10 each.

But one man crushes both categories: he led in RBI EIGHT times, and was in top 3 FOURTEEN times.

Who is this dominant RBI guy?

Do you hate the New York Mets?

Based on the career RBI leaderboard and when he played, I'd guess Cap Anson.

We may not have seen the last of Ruben Tejada. He was the starting SS for the Syracuse Mets last night.

If not Anson, I'll guess Mel Ott.

It's Anson. And Ott was a terrible guess. He led the league in HR six times, but RBI only once. Ott walked too much.

Correct, Anson; and for those who dismiss 1871-75 NA league, his RBI leading ##s occurred 1880 and later.

Anson is 4th all time in RBI if 1871ff are all counted. He is a mere 13th if only after 1875, when he was already 24 yrs old.

Pretty good game going on down in Tampa.

Ramon Laureano hit a grand slam to break a 2-2 tie in the 8th. If the A's hang on, the Yankees are back in first.

Congratulations to the Toronto Blue Jays, who have a chance to be the worst team in baseball before the weekend hits.

Good Lord. I tune in the Cubs game in time to see Caratini walk to load the bases with no outs. Then the catcher comes out to talk to the pitcher and stays until the ump sends him back. Then the pitching coach comes out to talk to the pitcher and stays there until the ump forces him to leave. Then the manager comes out to talk to the pitcher and stays there until the ump forces him to make a move.

I still absolutely hate the Heyward experience.

Way for Hamels to pick up Heyward.

Probably a good thing the Cubs and Rockies don’t play again after today.

Looks like that game got spicy.

Maybe - let's say probably for the sake of this argument - Hamels hit Arenado on purpose. I don't agree with that ever, but I at least understand the Cubs' reasoning - the Rockies hit Bryant twice yesterday, once last week, and most notably in the head last season; there's no way they all were on purpose, and I honestly can't think of a reason why either yesterday would have been either but in general baseball players don't think the same as me and perhaps someone on the Cubs thought they were, or even that there was some value to hit someone on the Rockies back just to "even things out". Again, I want to emphasize I totally DISAGREE with that mindset.

Fine, I can see how the unwritten rules say that evens things out, or even how the Rockies can call bullshit on that - especially since Arenado left the game - so they plunk Hamels on purpose. Again, this is stupid upon stupid upon stupid, but by nearly all level of reasoning that should end everything right? Then Rizzo gets hit after all that, so of course the neantheral response is to plunk a Rockie back again. Being the most stupid isn't something to aspire to or be proud of here, but this sure seems like the Rockies need to simmer the f down.

HOW WILL THE NATIONALS LOSE TODAY?!

(Trick question.)

Red Sox peak over the crest of mediocrity with the ever so exciting walk off walk! I'm still waiting for one of those streaks where they win like 17 out of 22 games and put a charge into this season. Though I'm not sure the SP is good enough to pull it off....

I’m loving this Hunter Pence resurrection. A .940 OPS now!

MLB is a better place with Hunter Pence in it.

Back to back replays in Phils vs DBacks. Runner called out but reversed followed by runner called safe but reversed.

Giancarlo Stanton had two HRs tonight while rehabbing at Class A Tampa. Homered yesterday, too.

2-0 Blues after one period and Blues scored an absolutely incredible goal because NHL poster boy for douchiness lets his guy go for free rush at the night because he just had to get to the bench with 8 seconds left in the period.
   26. Master of the Horse Posted: June 12, 2019 at 09:04 PM (#5851267)
Ha, ha. Verlander just threw a pitch well wide per Gameday and the umpire called it a strike. Grandal's reaction was the classic WTF meme you see on everywhere on social media

I thought the Colorado announcers were very good today. They obviously called the game through a Rockies prism, but I found them informative and enjoyable. And I am typically very very critical of announcers.

What specifically are you referring to? I suppose it has something to do with all the hit batsmen.
   28. Master of the Horse Posted: June 12, 2019 at 09:55 PM (#5851276)
Still 2-0 after two periods for the Blues. I am blown away that any of these guys can do an interview between periods talking about winning a championship.
   29. Master of the Horse Posted: June 12, 2019 at 10:21 PM (#5851277)
Blues goalie with the most amazing stop. Wow

3-0!!!!!!!!!!!
   31. Master of the Horse Posted: June 12, 2019 at 10:25 PM (#5851280)
Brewers with 17 strikeouts and 3 homers on offense. No walks. Tied but this game has kind of sucked.
   32. Master of the Horse Posted: June 12, 2019 at 10:32 PM (#5851284)
O.................M....................G 4-0 Blues

Blues win the Stanley Cup.

not exactly a 'great' series but nice outcome. End of 2nd and 1st half of the 3rd were really good though. It's like Bruins had a permanent power play, assault, no goals.
   35. cardsfanboy Posted: June 12, 2019 at 11:36 PM (#5851289)
Stanley Cups Champions.... omg...
   36. Bote Man Posted: June 12, 2019 at 11:40 PM (#5851290)
Three tied ballgames:
PGH @ ATL 6-6 T9
SEA @ MIN 6-6 T10
MIL @ HOU 3-3 T12

EDIT: No sooner do I hit Submit than Josh Bell hits a solo circuit clout to put the Pirates up 7-6.

Kang is playing for PGH, too.
   37. Bote Man Posted: June 12, 2019 at 11:50 PM (#5851291)
Now the Pirates are up a Crick without a paddle as the Braves are leading the life of Riley, who ties it back up 7-7 with a solo tater.

Man, Kyle Crick just threw strike 3 to McCann that was something out of a Bugs Bunny cartoon. Left his hand going toward the plate, then immediately broke toward 3B, then dove back into the middle of the zone for a called strike 3.
