Don't look now but the Mets have won 2 games in a row with deGrom on the bump in Denver tonight.

Off Sonny Gray? The over/under is 2.5.
   5. Bote Man Posted: June 18, 2018 at 03:49 PM (#5694618)
I'll take the OVER!
   6. rconn23 Posted: June 18, 2018 at 04:37 PM (#5694671)
I'll take the under. This ain't Yankee stadium.
   7. Bote Man Posted: June 18, 2018 at 05:09 PM (#5694694)
Weather Underground's WUndermap shows personal weather stations around Nationals Park registering between 90 and 97 degrees Fahrenheit. The ball just might be flying outta there. I'm sticking with OVER.
   8. Bote Man Posted: June 18, 2018 at 05:11 PM (#5694696)
Matt Adams had his finger get hit by a pitch while trying to bunt the other day, so his appearance today was determined just before game time. Decision: NO!

Juan Soto will make his second MLB debut pinch-hitting for Adams, due up 3rd this inning. Here he comes now!

I'm not the kinda guy who says, "I told ya so!" OVER!

That's the Nationals' first pinch-hit home run of this season.

Jorge Castillo @jorgecastillo
Juan Soto's 5 career plate appearances against the Yankees:

1. walk
2. 3-run HR
3. 436-foot solo HR
4. groundout
5. 433-foot 2-run HR

06.18: Clayton Kershaw (back) said after getting through a three-inning simulated game Monday that he expects to pitch in a game in five days. (Kershaw wouldn't say if that game would be a start in New York against the Mets, but he didn't seem to rule it out, either. The veteran left-hander has made just one start for the Dodgers since May 1, but he has rejoined their rotation without a rehab start before in the past. We'll know more about his status in the coming days.)

...............

wouldn't that be the best way for Kershaw to go "up the ladder?" start with the Mets, then pitch against a scarier lineup in AAA rehab start - then face legit major league lineups from then on.

Uh, not too bright, Gary.

Wonder if he forgot the number of outs, or if that was just a godawful read.
   12. Bote Man Posted: June 18, 2018 at 05:41 PM (#5694718)
The heat must be affecting all the baserunners on both teams. YIKES!
   13. rconn23 Posted: June 18, 2018 at 05:52 PM (#5694722)
This Yankee offense is just brutal right now.
   14. Bote Man Posted: June 18, 2018 at 06:15 PM (#5694730)
Yankees @ Nationals postponed game will start at 18:45 ET. That's 6:45 PM for you Yankees fans. Big hand on the 9, little hand almost on the 7.

As a Mariner fan, please let the Yankees and Nationals play a 22-inning 14-12 game tonight. I don't care who wins :)

92° at Kaufmann Stadium tonight for Rangers-Royals ... people are moaning about the heat in KC, I’m getting a break from Texas. A gorgeous park, truly suburban, way out on the interstate ... I’m staying across the highway and people are taking cab shuttles rather than walk the kilometer or so. I walked, but you have to improvise; it’s not set up for pedestrians at all. Boulevard has a bar behind 1B with about eight of their beers on tap; I’m drinking a wheat, bland but clean-tasting. Beltre’s in the lineup at 3B tonight - I couldn’t be happier :)
   17. AT-AT at bat@AT&T Posted: June 18, 2018 at 07:58 PM (#5694776)
How much for the beer on tap ?

We're just grumpy because spring didn't happen as scheduled this year. We went straight from freezing out an Ohtani start to 90+ degrees in one week.

Try the 80-Acre Wheat - it's a darker, hoppier wheat. Way better than the regular Boulevard Unfiltered.

Or, go check out the Crafts & Drafts bar on the Loge level in left field. It has a wonderful beer selection. Tons of smaller-batch Boulevards - more Belgians.

ETA: I think the Boulevards are $12.00 or so for a 22 oz. I think you can find yard beer for closer to $9 for a tall boy.

Much appreciated, Panic - I go off beer and onto water once the game starts, but we get Boulevard beers in DFW and I will look out for those. One item I appreciate at Kaufmann: little shelves above the urinals, to park your beer. Don’t think I’ve seen that at a ballpark (or anywhere) before.

I don't believe I would have that level of discipline if the only thing between me and my hotel room was a 1K stumble/walk.

And.... there goes a Choo HR on the 4th pitch of the game.
   24. BDC Posted: June 18, 2018 at 08:20 PM (#5694798)
Elvis Andrus batting second - I believe this is his first PA since a HBP broke his elbow, I saw that one too. He grounds out 53.
   25. BDC Posted: June 18, 2018 at 08:21 PM (#5694799)
With me it’s not so much discipline as I’m pushing 60 and lack the beer capacity anymore :)
   26. AT-AT at bat@AT&T Posted: June 18, 2018 at 08:24 PM (#5694802)
Ok, so Sonny Gray nails Turner up and in. If that is his plan, then he better hit Harper too and get out of the inning.
If that is the plan ... hat off in respect. If not, go back to the A's or better yet, head to the Orioles.. Good job, Sonny

Ok, so he planned the Harper K, I take it all back, Sonny !
   27. Bote Man Posted: June 18, 2018 at 08:50 PM (#5694811)
Misirlou: Gray bounced a pitch away that was ball #4 to Rendon, but Romine was in no hurry to go get it. The Nats radio guy said that Rendon could keep on going to 2B if Romine didn't corral the ball. Is this true?

Even if the ball gets away on ball 4 the batter-runner should only be entitled to 1B, no? It's not a live ball at that point.

GREAT pitching by Holder, but let's get some runs!

The Mets have a 2-8 record in deGrom's last 10 starts despite his ERA being 0.87.
   32. Spahn Insane Posted: June 18, 2018 at 09:07 PM (#5694828)
Clearly, deGrom just doesn’t know how to pitch to the score. Even when he gives up no runs at all.
   33. Man o' Schwar Posted: June 18, 2018 at 09:11 PM (#5694832)
Even if the ball gets away on ball 4 the batter-runner should only be entitled to 1B, no? It's not a live ball at that point.

It's a live ball - on ball 4 the runners on base can advance if they choose if it's a wild pitch (which they couldn't do if it was dead). The batter gets 1B without peril of being put out - he can go beyond 1B if he chooses, but is at risk of being put out in trying to do so.
   34. ERROR---Jolly Old St. Nick Posted: June 18, 2018 at 09:15 PM (#5694836)
Now THAT'S what they're paying Stanton to do.....
   35. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: June 18, 2018 at 09:21 PM (#5694841)
ESPN reporting that the Royals have traded Kelvin Herrera to the Nats for three prospects (I assume, anyway - I've never heard of them), one of whom is named Kelvin Gutierrez. That's probably the first trade in major league history with Kelvins on both sides, right?
   36. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: June 18, 2018 at 09:22 PM (#5694843)
Clearly, deGrom just doesn’t know how to pitch to the score. Even when he gives up no runs at all.
I would assume he also needs to develop his skills in persuading the bullpen not to give up runs behind him. Will to win.

According to this article, Soto is officially a time traveler.
   38. cardsfanboy Posted: June 18, 2018 at 09:32 PM (#5694849)
ouch... ball hits the wall and then bounces off the nose of Nick Williams... looks like it caused some bleeding....and by some I mean his hand is covered in blood..... Still you have to hand it to him, he played the ball before worrying about the injury.

No one is a match for Good Betances, not even future 9-time MVP Juan Soto.
   44. cardsfanboy Posted: June 18, 2018 at 09:54 PM (#5694868)
And McCarver full on McCarver... "it used to be that if you are behind a game 4-2 you take every pitch until they get ahead of you, and then you swing, it's a shame that that is no longer in the game."

Oh jeezus ####### christ mr fossil.... No, that was never the game. There were a few players who did that, but not the norm.

Cardinals season high for strikeouts coming into todays game... 15, after Bader's strikeout it's now 17.

Bottom of the fifth here, Bartolo Colon has thrown 79 pitches in the heat and is getting roughed up, but nobody warming for Texas ...

Didi Gregorius is standing in front of Murphy to block him from seeing the catcher's signs. As I feared, this is apparently becoming a thing.

Should've ended on that non-checked third strike, but a win's a win. And Stanton's 4 hits is encouraging.

Mets belated phenom Brandon Nimmo invited kids from his former "Post" and the manager to travel the few miles from Bumfock, Wyoming to Denver for Mets-Rockies game. Nimmo's high school didn't have a baseball team and Mets announcers made it sound like no WY HS has a baseball team - which if that isn't true, don't tell me because I like the idea.

Mets in-stands guy asks the coach what is the area where Nimmo has made the biggest strides. he says, "Brandon's brother told me to say that I taught him to walk and chew gum at the same time - though I have't seen both in a while."

Mets announcers called that "Wyoming humor."

   56. BDC Posted: June 18, 2018 at 10:20 PM (#5694887)
Colon back out for the sixth: got the leadoff guy to fly out, caught a line drive, lost a footrace on a grounder to the first baseman, and then fooled Mondesi on an 80-mph fastball before getting him to tap into a 36 force, the 1B taking no chances on Bartolo covering this time.

Pham, Bam.....
   58. cardsfanboy Posted: June 18, 2018 at 10:28 PM (#5694891)
I do think it's funny, the Cardinals have 4 players with 10 or more homeruns.... (which is tied for 6 for the most in baseball) and yet have no player with more than 11... (and heck before today had no players with 11...now have two)
   59. cardsfanboy Posted: June 18, 2018 at 10:30 PM (#5694896)
For a guy who is a dork about the small honors like player of the week or month.... I have to sadly admit that even after reading the headline that "Ozuna named player of the week." that I didn't realize it was the Cardinals Ozuna.... not sure why, but I just looked over it.

Molina starting to be Molina again, with 3/4th of the cycle today... guess which one of the four he doesn't have tonight?

ESPN reporting that the Royals have traded Kelvin Herrera to the Nats for three prospects (I assume, anyway - I've never heard of them), one of whom is named Kelvin Gutierrez.

The others are Blake Perkins and Yohanse Morel, and on the surface the Nats made one hell of a deal. Herrera's bounced back from 2017 and is now one of the best closers in baseball.

I get the Phillies making bad move bringing in Morgan for no real reason, not really seeing the Cardinals bad move here. It's extra innings, you are limited in your options, Hicks has pitched the previous two games, Bowman was a trusted reliever last year so he seemed like a viable option there, not really sure what option you would have pushed there. Heck the team was effectively one good play from a win, and it wasn't like any of the hits against Bowman were well hit.

The Cards and Phillies are quite similar teams, but bullpen and especially fielding issues don't bode well for playoff runs, not with better teams ahead of them.

Maybe they need uglier managers.
