HOW WILL THE ANGELS LOSE TODAY?!

There was a lot of fun stuff in the Astros-Rockies game last night:

* Alex Bregman hit what appeared to be a leadoff triple off the left field wall, but was eventually called out for fan interference. The replay showed clearly that the ball was likely to be caught by Rockies leftfielder Gerardo Parra until it was tipped by a fan (in a Justin Verlander Astros jersey!) reaching way out over the fence.

* With one out and the bases loaded in the seventh, Nolan Arenado hit a sacrifice fly to the third baseman. Astros 3B J.D. Davis caught the foul popup while falling into the dugout, then threw wildly to home plate.

* The Rockies pitching staff combined on a one-hitter, but the Astros still managed to nudge across two runs on a walk, a Jose Altuve double, an error by Ian Desmond, and an RBI groundout. There was also a catcher's interference in the inning.

* Because of that, the Rockies needed a walk-off homer by Charlie Blackmon in the ninth to win the game. Heading into the ninth, the Rockies had five singles, a double, a triple, and a homer, while the Astros had just that lone double, but the game was tied.

   4. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: July 26, 2018 at 01:58 PM (#5716402)
Occasionally I question whether it's wrong for me to kind of hate Charlie Blackmon strictly because of his haircut/beard, but I always end up deciding that I'm ok with it.

One other fun thing that happened last night: Per tradition, someone on the Rockies threw a bucket of water on Charlie after his walk-off homer, causing him to shake out his beard like a collie.

Can an Angel fan explain to me why they keep putting Cole(mr. .249 OBP) in the lead off spot instead of someone like Simmons(he of the .362 OBP)? We all know lineup construction isn't a huge thing but surely if you have a better option hitting in front of Ohtani and Trout you are going to score more runs....

Well he was pitching against the Cubs those years and outside of 2007 and 2008 when Hamels was still quite young, the Cubs went from pretty much to totally sucking. So being successful against them is pretty much in line with every other decent pitcher.
   32. Red Voodooin Posted: July 26, 2018 at 10:09 PM (#5716636)
Well, he no-hit the 2015 Cubs at Wrigley. Only time the Cubs have been no-hit in my lifetime.

Quite a night: Yanks get Happ, may lose Judge, Gray looks good but leaves after 75 pitches, Britton mows em down, and Gordon gets thrown out at home to end the game with the Royals 5 runs back. And then Rodney's one pitch away from blowing Gibson's fabulous 8 inning performance against the Red Sox, but comes back to strike out Bradley to end the game with the bases loaded.

And at the end of it all, the Sox lead is now down to 4 1/2. It ain't over, but if Judge is out for more than a few days it don't look good.
   35. rconn23 Posted: July 26, 2018 at 10:27 PM (#5716648)
Boone just said they're "concerned" about Judge. Goodbye season. It was nice knowing you.

Chip fracture for Judge. Out three weeks.

Blargh.

From MLBTR:

The Yankees announced after tonight’s game that an MRI revealed a chip fracture in Aaron Judge’s right wrist — specifically, in the ulnar styloid bone. He’ll head to the disabled list and miss an estimated three weeks, though he won’t require surgery. Judge sustained the injury when he was hit on the wrist by an errant fastball from Royals righty Jakob Junis.

Yankees say Aaron Judge sustained a chip fracture of the right wrist (ulnar styloid bone). No surgery has been recommended. They estimate a three-week time period before Judge can swing a bat in a game situation.

the Mets fan peak self-immolation phase may have only lasted for 68 games:

11-1
21-47
11-9

now 43-57

so if they go 47-15.....

in NJ, you can now legally bet on the Mets to win the WS at 1000-1
but don't
