Bite your tongue. Chatwood is probably going to relieve duensing. Both of them should be permanently DLed. So many better options in AAA right now.
   102. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: August 01, 2018 at 10:24 PM (#5719430)
I'm not sure an 8-run lead is Duensing-proof, let alone Chatwood-proof.

How were the Pirates able to obtain mid 90's Mike Piazza?
   104. Moses Taylor, aka Hambone Fakenameington Posted: August 01, 2018 at 10:26 PM (#5719433)
Sean Rodriguez should probably retire after that AB.
   105. Brian C Posted: August 01, 2018 at 10:27 PM (#5719435)
I think Chatwood in the bullpen is an intriguing idea. I will not be surprised if it goes better than we all expect.
   106. Moses Taylor, aka Hambone Fakenameington Posted: August 01, 2018 at 10:31 PM (#5719438)
I'm not that optimistic.

That might have more to do with where the expectation bar is set.

Ben Slowbrist.

I agree. Chatwood has one overriding weakness and a couple modest strengths. Someone like that may turn out more useful if deployed selectively.

Here he is. Hope I'm wrong...
   110. Brian C Posted: August 01, 2018 at 10:34 PM (#5719442)
Well, we are about to find out.
   111. Brian C Posted: August 01, 2018 at 10:38 PM (#5719444)
OK well maybe this is more of a long-term optimism on my part.
   112. Brian C Posted: August 01, 2018 at 10:40 PM (#5719446)
Or maybe I was right after all. After all, that went way better than I expected ... given that he gave up 3 hard hit balls and a walk out of 4 batters.
   113. K-BAR, J-BAR (trhn) Posted: August 01, 2018 at 10:42 PM (#5719449)
One of his modest strengths... top 10 in GB%. That is probably part of why his ERA isn't > 6. And the Cubs' defense.
   114. cardsfanboy Posted: August 01, 2018 at 10:42 PM (#5719450)
Horton and Mclaughlin are trying to find a way to credit Shildt for Bader scoring from second on a single to center.... it's hilarious how hard they are trying to give fellatio to Shildt every time something good happens and deflect it every time something not great happens.
   115. cardsfanboy Posted: August 01, 2018 at 10:43 PM (#5719451)
Mclaughlin just literally said "how about going back to small ball and seeing how it would work in today's game.".....

I am just laughing at these idiots. It would be about as successful as 1990 Cardinal baseball or pretty much every year under whitey ball except 1981, 1982, 1985, 1987.... (so 1983, 1984, 1986, 1988, 1989, and of course the ultimate, 1990 and that last place finish that could only happen with a manager like Whitey in St Louis history.... so I have a pretty good idea of what will happen with small ball, when you tell your players to avoid walks and power in order to put the ball in play more)
   116. cardsfanboy Posted: August 01, 2018 at 10:57 PM (#5719456)
Now McLaughlin and Horton are trying to say "there is a more engaged crowd" because of Shildt.
   117. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: August 01, 2018 at 11:01 PM (#5719458)
I wonder when this "small ball = moral virtue" thing will finally die.

In St Louis probably not until Whiney Herzog has been dead and buried for 200 years....

They say the buzz cut will be the last thing to decompose.
   120. cardsfanboy Posted: August 01, 2018 at 11:17 PM (#5719462)
good thing that Shildt is managing this team, without his small ball approach, and under Matheny in the past, when there was a man on second base with no outs, the team would sometimes strikeout back to back, thank god for Shildt and his new approach that is completely different than Matheny, or else Martinez and Munoz might have striked out with a man on second and no outs..... oh wait, that is what just happened? I guess Shildt gave up the small ball approach....or it's possible that the previous praise of small ball approach was just a confluence of the players natural abilities and odds.

quite the play by Moustakas at 3B - 4-4, bags loaded, bottom 8 in LA, 2 out - and he snares a rocket and nabs the runner by a step. RP Jeffress will buy Moustakas a round later as his 1.38 ERA goes lower.

I hope everyone realizes javy is hitting .303/.336/.577 and is an honest to goodness mvp candidate while also being the most fun player in baseball.

Well he's having a great year, however Lindor and Betts are in the "most fun player" discussion. Javy is probably a little flashier then those two, so just get the heck off my lawn!

I wonder when this "small ball = moral virtue" thing will finally die.

"Small ball" can mean something as stupid as bunting a runner from 1st to 2nd with one out in the first inning, or it can mean something as simple as not swinging for the fences on a two strike splitter, or realizing that hitting one ground ball after another into the shift when you're batting .223 doesn't represent some sort of moral virtue in itself.

El Hombre has abandoned us in our time of need with 2 afternoon games underway already.

I wonder if the Rays are contagious:

Blue Jays PR @BlueJaysPR
RHP Tyler Clippard will be tonight's starting pitcher vs. Seattle Mariners.

Jacob Rasch #DUSTYWARNEDUS @serious_jammage
A somewhat fun fact is that Tyler Clippard has a higher bWAR this year than Bryce Harper.

Oh, Betts and Lindor are better players and both are having better years. Both are fun, but Javy as the funnest is fact (and that was before he broke out this year). Flashy doesn't always equal fun, but this year Javy is fun, flashy, AND great.

(since there is no chatter for 2 Aug yet....)

On today’s MLB schedule at ESPN, it show you can buy a ticket to a Mets game for as little as $4. Rangers game, $2. Nationals game, $5. Yankees-Red Sox game? $69! Probably SRO too.

NEW CHATTER. SAME OLD SORRY ASS ANGELS.

And people wonder why those two teams keep showing up on a disproportionate number of national telecasts.
