Jaime Garcia upset with Joe Girardi after getting pulled - NY Daily News

A win heals all.

“I appreciate it,” Garcia said. “He came over and said it was a tough decision for him and that I was throwing the ball well. But at the end of the day, my job is to execute pitches until they take me out of the game. I thought for the most part I was able to do that today, and the biggest thing is that we won a big game.”

Reminds me a little of that comment Bill James made in that series of articles on lucky/unlucky pitchers:

Ditmar, Buzhardt and Don Larsen are examples of what I think of as the Red Ruffing syndrome. Part of the problem of pretty-good pitchers on really bad teams is that they get overworked, because a tired Art Ditmar is still better than anybody else the A’s have.

Jaime Garcia is not the guy who went 13-8 and 13-7 with the Cardinals nearly a decade ago. He's just a decent pitcher who was pressed into service (mostly) on a bad Braves team, so he's used to pitching 6, 7 innings, even if he's giving up a few runs because the alternative for middle innings is someone like Ian Krol or Matt Wisler, so you leave him in. Plus, the Braves are going nowhere, being 20+ games out of the division lead, so who cares?

The Yankees have a much better bullpen, and are in a pennant race, so they need not take chances on an unproven commodity like Garcia when you've got a lights-out option in Green who can bridge you to the (admittedly shaky) All-Stars at the back of your bullpen. He's got to adjust his expectations.

Gimme the guy who is pissed about coming out of the game every day and twice on Sunday. Garcia's comments aren't inflammatory here, he's competing and wants to stay in there. That's the attitude I want my pitcher to have.

It's great to want to compete, but this is the same guy who didn't tell the Cardinals he was hurting so he could start a playoff game and get hit hard. He needs to take it down a notch.

IIRC he was also criticized early in his career for missing time without an injury, so he may be overcompensating to err on the side of caution.
