Jake Peavy could be traded, but Red Sox aren’t giving up on season yet

Boston wouldn’t mind using talented rookie Rubby De La Rosa in the rotation, and Peavy is currently blocking his path. Additionally, Peavy, a loser of seven straight (though much of that is due to a lack of support) may frankly be better suited to go back to the NL at this stage of his career.

Give up?  When were they ever trying?

Peavy's ERA is 4.64 after a couple good starts in a row. Maybe he hasn't been 1-7 bad but he's been pretty bad.

It is stupid to blame Peavy for blocking De La Rosa when Buchholz and Dubront have been worse than Peavy. Their unwillingness to move Lackey - a much more valuable player that they don't need in their current situation - is just as much of a blockage.

Move Lackey now while his value is high. Peavy's having his worst season by a mile so you'd be selling low, and with his player option for 2015 he essentially can't be traded. The Red Sox will have to eat that option, so it is probably a better idea to keep him and see if 2015 can be salvaged. If he stinks 8 starts into 2015, then release him.

Peavy: Dead! Napoli's right. Psychotic... but absolutely right. We gotta take these bastards. Now we could do it with conventional weapons, but that could take years and cost millions of lives. No, I think we have to go all out. I think that this situation absolutely requires a really futile and stupid gesture be done on somebody's part!

Napoli: We're just the guys to do it.

For Peavy to get the 2015 deal, he'd need to pitch 400 innings in 2013 + 2014, including 190 innings in 2014. He only pitched 144 innings in 2013, so that option will be dead.
