Jake Peavy could be traded, but Red Sox aren’t giving up on season yet

Boston wouldn’t mind using talented rookie Rubby De La Rosa in the rotation, and Peavy is currently blocking his path. Additionally, Peavy, a loser of seven straight (though much of that is due to a lack of support) may frankly be better suited to go back to the NL at this stage of his career.

Give up?  When were they ever trying?

Peavy's ERA is 4.64 after a couple good starts in a row. Maybe he hasn't been 1-7 bad but he's been pretty bad.

It is stupid to blame Peavy for blocking De La Rosa when Buchholz and Dubront have been worse than Peavy. Their unwillingness to move Lackey - a much more valuable player that they don't need in their current situation - is just as much of a blockage.

Move Lackey now while his value is high. Peavy's having his worst season by a mile so you'd be selling low, and with his player option for 2015 he essentially can't be traded. The Red Sox will have to eat that option, so it is probably a better idea to keep him and see if 2015 can be salvaged. If he stinks 8 starts into 2015, then release him.

Peavy won't have a player option next year - not enough innings.

Trade em all...Lester, Koji, Lackey, anyone with value.

Imagine the look on Pedroia's face if they did that?

Nice play Gomes. Trade him, too, immediately.

Napoli: Hey! What's all this laying around stuff? Why are you all still laying around here for?

Gomes:: What the hell are we supposed to do, ya moron? We're in last place. There's nothing to fight for anymore.

Ortiz [to Napoli] Let it go. War's over, man. Showalter dropped the big one.

Napoli: What? Over? Did you say "over"? Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no!

Peavy: [to Lester] Germans?

Lester: Forget it, he's rolling.

Napoli: And it ain't over now. 'Cause when the goin' gets tough...
[thinks hard of something to say]

Napoli: The tough get goin'! Who's with me? Let's go!

[Napoli runs out, alone; then returns]

Napoli: What the #### happened to the Sox I used to know? Where's the spirit? Where's the guts, huh? This could be the greatest year of our lives, but you're gonna let it be the worst. "Ooh, we're afraid to go with you Napoli, we might get in trouble." Well just kiss my ass from now on! Not me! I'm not gonna take this. Showalter, he's a dead man! Gibbons, dead! Girardi...

Peavy: Dead! Napoli's right. Psychotic... but absolutely right. We gotta take these bastards. Now we could do it with conventional weapons, but that could take years and cost millions of lives. No, I think we have to go all out. I think that this situation absolutely requires a really futile and stupid gesture be done on somebody's part!

Napoli: We're just the guys to do it.

Ortiz [stands up] Yeah, I agree. Let's go get 'em.

Lester: Let's do it.

Napoli: [shouting] "Let's do it"!

[all of the Sox stand up and run out with Napoli]

For Peavy to get the 2015 deal, he'd need to pitch 400 innings in 2013 + 2014, including 190 innings in 2014. He only pitched 144 innings in 2013, so that option will be dead.

Sure is looking that way, doesn't it?
