Japan Times: Giants capture Japan Series title

Walk like a giant…

Shinnosuke Abe led the Yomiuri Giants to the Central League pennant, nearly won the Triple Crown, and will more than likely be named CL MVP in a few weeks.

His final swing of the season? Just the hit that helped deliver another Japan Series title to the Kyojin’s already crowded trophy case.

Abe drove in the tiebreaking run in the seventh and the Yomiuri bullpen took it from there, as the Giants won the Japan Series with a 4-3 victory over the Hokkaido Nippon Ham Fighters in Game 6 on Saturday night at Tokyo Dome.

Giants are the champions of NPB, MLB, and NFL. This is one of those odd serendipitous things, kind of like both of the major sports teams in Baltimore formerly being named the Browns.

Sadly, the AZL Giants, San Jose Giants, Korea's Lotte Giants, the WHL's Vancouver Giants, the Greater Western Sydney FC Giants, the Belfast Giants and Huddersfield Giants are not reigning champions. However, the Jacksonville Giants of the minor league basketball ABA are reigning champions!

Congratulations to John Bowker on finally achieving success with the Giants after so many years.

Had They Might Be Giants released a new album, they might have been Grammy-winners...

That is a fun little thing.

Why isn't the japan series on MLB network? I would watch the #### out of that.

which is kind of the opposite of what happened in the 50s--the Giants won the Japanese series every year from 51 to 55, EXCEPT 1954...
