I had heard nothing of this and when I was asked by my barber this morning, "Did you hear about that Jays announcer Zaun being fired?", I immediately thought this would be the reason why. I drew the conclusion not based on any information other than what has been going on in the media and entertainment world in the last month.

If this means more pat tabler, that's gonna sting.

It's more likely it means more Kevin Barker.

He would never have been fired for "inappropriate behaviour" in the U.S.

You shut your mouth!

Seriously, I hope the Jays can transition this into having Dan Shulman do a full slate of Jays games as the pbp guy, Buck Martinez as the colour guy, and move Pat Tabler into the studio with Jamie Campbell.

I would actually like that setup. From the limited bits I've seen of him in that role, Tabler has done a good job as a studio guy.

Yeah, I like the guy well enough, but boy, he hasn't gotten any better at his job the entire time he's been doing it, which has been years...and he wasn't good in the first place.

Gregg Zaun was pretty bad at his job too. Every once in awhile he would say something insightful, and it would be both surprising (because it was so infrequently) and frustrating (if he had worked on that part of his craft, he might possibly have been good).

One of the ongoing jokes in my family is the "[BLANK 1] is the [BLANK 2] that didn't make it" construction, like, "Quinoa is the wheat that didn't make it" (say that to a hippie, they'll freak out) or "Husqvarna is the Stihl that didn't make it." (just a little chainsaw humour, guys) So now I get to say this here...

Gregg Zaun is the Don Cherry that didn't make it.

One night I found myself watching the Canadian broadcast (or is it "broadcaste"?) of the World Series and I believe it was Gregg Zaun that said "You should never pitch inside to Altuve because you never throw inside to guys with short arms."

Also, this image is a nice summary of the Gregg Zaun experience.

But who will be Sportsnet's baseball Manalyst now?

I believe it was Gregg Zaun that said "You should never pitch inside to Altuve because you never throw inside to guys with short arms."

That was him.

They also had Joey Votto and Justin Morneau stop by and provide analysis. Justin was very dull but nice, and Votto occasionally let slip a glance at one of the other speakers that said "WTF did you just say?".

or "Husqvarna is the Stihl that didn't make it." (just a little chainsaw humour, guys)

Is it bad that I got this without the link?
