Jayson Stark: Strange but True Feats of the 2012 Season

“• Then there was Mark DeRosa. He made the mistake of jumping off his seat in the dugout to high-five Bryce Harper in May after Harper had just stolen home—and aggravated an oblique injury when the Boy Wonder got a little carried away with his palm-pounding routine. DeRosa didn’t play again for six weeks. And you thought Harper’s takeout slides were scary.”

Bryce Harper injuring Mark Derosa is one of those little things elite players do that don’t show up in the box score. Worth at least a win or two for the Nats.

I've always enjoyed these from Stark. But ...

At one point in August, Andre Ethier had a streak when he went 11-for-11. Elsewhere in the NL West, Padres catcher Nick Hundley came within 18 at-bats of going 11-for-111!

... just seems sort of dumb.

Didn't know of Bumgartner's lack of wild pitches, and I missed the Rauch v. Altuve matchup. Cool.

Always a fun read.

also sad to seem camp make it for facing 7 players and giving up 7 hits

stark's stuff is mostly predicated on selective end points

and i continue to suspect that the 'first time ever stuff' he is fed by elias is in fact not the first time ever. i don't believe that elias has gone through all the box scores to be able to support those claims.

if someone can correct me i would appreciate being corrected

but fundamentally i think the hirdts are untrustworthy
