Jayson Werth breaks left wrist, out ‘a while’

Nationals right fielder Jayson Werth was forced to leave the game Sunday night against his former team, the Phillies, with an injury to his left wrist. And after the game, it was revealed that Werth broke his wrist, as reported by every writer on site (including Washington Times and Nationals.com). Multiple reporters said nothing specific, only that Werth will be out “a while.” There’s obviously no timetable yet because a final ruling on whether or not surgery is needed hasn’t yet been made.

The history here has to be concerning, too. Werth’s career was temporarily derailed and nearly ended back in 2005-06 due to a left wrist injury and ensuing surgery. He then resurfaced with the Phillies in 2007 and eventually became an All-Star.

Thanks to HK.

Sigh, another f*cking injury. Zimmerman had better be coming back soon, because we're rapidly running out of available decent hitters.

Hello, Chris Brown.

And if you're Mike Rizzo, you hope like heck that the Rangers ground the Angels into submission next weekend so that Anaheim might go into rebuilding mode and make Torii Hunter available.

Isn't that the wrist he hurt 6 years ago, which cost him the 2006 season ?

Alfonso Soriano is available if you just call. You're not a real team until you have a full blown albatross contract.

Caffeine deficency? :)
Tough break for the Nats who were looking like real contenders. (as well as a tough break for Werth)

Maybe the Nats would like an almost healthy Jason Bay to replace him?

A shame it happened a day after his most memorable moment as a National.

Well, at least Zimmerman is returning tomorrow. And Morse's recovery is on track, apparently.

But yeah...eesh. I know that every year, every team feels like it's been disproportionately bitten by the injury bug -- and at least our rotation is chugging along happily -- but still, the Nats have had every one of their offensive forces (save Harper, of course) get injured so far. Zimmerman, LaRoche, Werth, Morse.

Been there, done that.

There is no cause for apprehension. The angels looking over the Nats will see to it that things turn out OK.

Have you seen what they owe Werth?

Maybe if Rizzo can't wait that long he'll settle for Vernon Wells.

Caffeine deficiency can lead to a broken wrist?

I can sort of see that ...

Caffeine deficiency can lead to asking a question that was answered in the quote posted with the link.

How about trading for LaHair? The man is in full beast mode right now and it would probably only cost a prospect Either that or taking on most of Soriano's contract.

Official word now is that Werth is out for 12 weeks, which would bring him back around the first of August.
