Joe DiMaggio Jr. looks to become restaurant icon

And their signature dish is the Engelburger!

Joe DiMaggio Jr., wants his name to be as recognizable as his distant cousin, the Hall-of-Fame baseball player and coffee maker salesman.

...“He was very reserved,” said DiMaggio, who sports the same nose as his famous cousin. “He was a pretty amazing individual, an icon.

“I remember the first time I played golf with him. I was 22 and I had never played golf before,” DiMaggio recalled. “By the seventh hole, my (score was) 126. He told me to get (expletive) off the course. Since that time, I’ve devoted part of my life to becoming a better golfer.”

Then there was a run-in with some cops. “I was driving a Lamborghini Countach and going 176 mph between Tampa and Orlando,” DiMaggio recalled. “The cop pulled me over and ripped me right out of the car. He saw my name and asked if my dad was Joe DiMaggio (his dad is also named Joe, but not the Joe that once hit in 56 straight games) and I told him it was. I wasn’t lying. The cop then told me my dad signed a baseball of his when he was six. He ended up letting me go with a warning.”

not when you offer Kafka lamb curry and shrimp scampi pizzas

Is the curry existentialist or something?

I would turn it down. Not a huge fan of curry, and shrimp belongs nowhere near pizza.

There is a rinky dink little pizza shop in Naples near the college campus that serves a darn good pizza. Don't know about Za Za but I do know that whole area is a breeding ground "franchises". I went down there one week to look over a restaurant that I was thinking of buying and the whole area is covered in chains and mini chains. Everybody body had 4 or 5 restaurants.

There is another place down there too that I forget the name of that makes the best zeppoles I've ever had.

One more reason that Dimaggio remains my favorite Major Leaguer that I never saw play. He once more or less told Yogi Berra the same thing when Yogi wanted to sit out the second game of a doubleheader, and Berra never asked to do that again for the next 15 years.

Hell I think anybody who was taking 18 swings per hole would get told to get the hell off the course. Even I am not that bad and I barely play.

Legend is that Monroe was a lousy golfer too, and that led to their eventual divorce, though Joe still carried a torch for her. He was known to mutter 'if she only could have broken a hundred' while sitting in hotel lobbies in the middle of the night...
