Joe Mauer engaged

Joe Mauer, perhaps Minnesota’s most eligible bachelor, on Saturday became engaged to fellow Cretin-Derham Hall graduate Maddie Bisanz.

Mauer, 28, the Minnesota Twins catcher, proposed to Bisanz, a St. Paul nurse, in Sanibel, Fla.

“A place that is special to both of us,” Mauer said Sunday from Florida. “We couldn’t be happier, and we’re both really excited.”

No wedding date has been set. The couple has been friends for about seven years and has been dating for about 1-1/2 years.

Insert “well played Mauer” joke here.

Heh - if you go do a Google image search on Maddie Bisanz, the link in #1 comes up in the second row of results.

Engaged what? A grizzly bear in hand-to-hand combat? Don't leave me hanging like that headline!

Wouldn't that be grounds for an annulment?

I guess it'll be convenient for Mauer to have a nurse around. Ba-ZING!

He'll need more than one.

Married? I heard he sleeps with the fishes.

At the end of the piece Walters goes fishing:

Will marriage affect his baseball?

"No. (Maddie's) the one who got me through last year," Mauer said. "If anything, she's going to make me better. We were really close (friends) in '09, too."

So, to recap:
1. Dating Maddie was not a singular cause of the disastrous 2011 season.
2. The rather conservative St Paul paper considers (friends) a euphemism for knocking boots.

Yeah, look at how well having a doctor around worked for Michael Jackson.

For the record, in VA's image she's the one on the left (the bridesmaid).

I read the headline as, "Joe Mauer Enraged." Imagine my surprise.

Huh. Didn't think that was possible.

#1 is so much better than any Maury Chass ALL-CAPS bit.
