1. JE (Jason Epstein)Carlos Pena seemed pretty ticked about it in a postgame interview.
I'm disappointed though that Maddon showed an unusual lack of imagination in having the umpires inspect the glove of the Nationals pitcher in the next inning. If you're going to do that then it makes far more sense to try to disrupt Strasburg in tomorrow's game.
@illumiNats: Joel Peralta also pitched in the infamous 6/14/2005 #Nats #Angels game that Brendan Donnelly was ejected for pine tar http://t.co/Am1LHyRD
Who needs the Roger Clemens trial? We've got PineTarGate II baby!!
Maddon's close to doing a 180 in people's eyes* with his actions/statements in the last few weeks
* people's eyes = my eyes
I mean we've got Dickey doing a Wilbur Wood impersonation, I'd love for the new Gaylord Perry to pop up.
I think a better unwritten rule is, if you cheated FOR a team, and they know your tricks (why?), and now you're pitching against them, don't cheat until AFTER they've inspected your glove.
There is no honor among thieves.
unless, of course, it's Those Terrible Drugs that turn alex sanchez into alex rodriguez
or ejected from the game, which is kind of the same thing.
(unless you were making a cthulhu reference).
I remembered that Julian Tavarez got tossed for this*, and it looks like it was 2004. I don't know if anyone's been thrown out since then.
* You can probably find any possible reason for an ejection and Tavarez, at some point, met the criteria.
Or professional athletes. But I repeat myself.
Same here. I think Maddon may be paying to much attention to his own press. He's in danger of becoming the next Bobby Valentine: a self-parodic clown.
Aside from the aforementioned Tavarez, it happened to Brendan Donnelly in 2005.
Also <a href="http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20090924&c>here's Dave Duncan</a> making inflammatory and/or cowardly accusations against Bronson Arroyo, and Arroyo's manager retorting by reminding us of Duncan's long association with Tavarez and Steve Kline.
