John Williams Composes New Red Sox Song ‘Fanfare for Fenway’ With Help From Boston Pops Orchestra

Bah! Bobb Trimble gets jobbed again.

John Williams, a renowned composer and Red Sox fan, composed and conducted a song to embody and honor the 100th anniversary of Fenway Park in 2012. The song is called “Fanfare for Fenway.”

The Boston Pops Orchestra performed a recording on Saturday, March 24 at Boston’s Symphony Hall. The track is about three minutes in length.

Williams has created medleys to go along with the 2005 and 2008 Opening Day ceremony videos that honored World Series-winning teams. He also composed “Hymn to New England,” which was performed by the Boston Pops Brass Ensemble while the 2007 banner was raised in 2008.

John Williams, a renowned composer

I don't know how these things are decided, but I'd have gone with "the renowned composer".

If I were a very wealthy closer, I would commission somebody like Williams to write my entrance music.

I like that song "At Fenway" by Brian Evans. It's fun. Why do the Red Sox get these old farts?

Jack Spade: [looks at musicians] Who are these guys?
John Spade: They're my theme music. Every hero's got to have some.

The pretentious self-referential, self-important, and self-serving public relations acts of certain teams (Red Sox, Yanks worst offenders) are truly nauseating.

I love the place, but "Fanfare for Fenway?" Give me a break.

Sorry for being so cynical.

Also the composer of "Fanfare for Michael Dukakis" for the 1988 DNC.

Interestingly enough, he also composed the Yankees theme The Imperial March.

Yeah, teams and companies that promote themselves should not refer to themselves, try to make themselves seem better than they possibly are, or try to earn the company more money. I mean, the nerve!

I for one want to see the Yankees run pro-Red Sox ads all this year. That'll show those other nauseating bastards what truly altruistic advertising looks like!

It's the hundredth anniversary of the place. I think a centennial warrants a song.

Given the spotty nature of Williams's concert music, that's would be a shame, if so. Excellent as some of it is, there's more to music than just that written in the commercial genres.

Followed by a swift demolition.
