Johnny Bench on Maker’s Mark bottle

Bottom’s up, Dick Young.

National Baseball Hall of Fame catcher Johnny Bench is featured on the annual limited edition Maker’s Mark bottle commemorating the Lane’s End Stakes at Turfway Park, according to a press release.

The label features Bench standing with a catcher’s mask in one hand and mitt in the other. Only 3,000 numbered bottles will be produced. They will go on sale Friday, March 14, at area liquor retailers in Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky. Proceeds from the sale of this year’s bottle and related events will benefit the Cincinnati Reds Hall of Fame and Museum and the Johnny Bench Scholarship Fund of the Greater Cincinnati Foundation.

Turfway Park? Shouldn't Pete Rose be on the bottle?

Wow, your face on a bottle of Maker's is about the highest honor a person can receive. I wonder if he has to drive out the the distillery and dip each of the bottles himself.

Is Larry Bowa on the Bushmill bottle?

Isn't Bench at least part Native American? Don't know if this is the wisest decision he ever made ...

Big deal, Kenny Williams has had his face on the label of Horse's Ass Beer for years and nobody's said a dang thing.

Heh. You know, I enjoy reading the intelligent baseball discussion and all, but really my favorite part of BBTF is the race to the one-liners.

Though perhaps that says something about my overall contributory value here...
