Johnny Damon: ‘Ready’ for comeback

The three-time All-Star, two-time World Series champion and five-time .300 hitter is staying in shape, swinging the bat and eager to return to the majors. The 40-year-old Damon last played for Cleveland in 2012, but isn’t quite ready for retirement.

“When you feel you can still outhit at least half the league and you don’t get that call, it’s rough,” Damon told The Associated Press in a phone interview Friday. “The biggest reason to play is to have a chance to win. Obviously, 3,000 hits would be great but winning is the reason I started playing this game. I’m going to continue to stay in shape and I’ll be ready.”

Damon hit 222/281/329 in 207 AB in 2012.

I mostly think Damon's full of it. On the other hand, the Braves' backup OFs have a 64 and 35 OPS+ respectively, and the starting CF has an OPS+ of 70. If Frank Wren signed Damon I don't think I'd be able to complain about it.

Maybe they should test Damon for teh weed now, because he's gotta be high to think he's got another season in him.

Maybe he's just been watching the Red Sox outfield play all year.

Wasn't he complaining just a few months ago that he was "blacklisted" from baseball for not taking steroids?

CJ Cron is the Angel DH now, and while his OBP ain't great, he's twice the hitter Damon would be now...
