Perhaps my favorite part of the entire cornucopia of the internet's baseball offerings are these little gifs that encapsulate the wonderful moments from the games. No one but a bunch of long-dead batters ever saw Mathewson's fadewaway, we don't have great film of Hubbell's screwgie or Musial's swing, and it's not even easy to compare swings from hitters of the 70s. But man, just minutes after it happens we can see the expression on a guy's face as a Berrios two-seamer disappears.

Jason Verlander's curve-ball called strike is certainly an amazing pitch, because it isn't even that close to a strike. The catcher did about a 4 inch pull-up framing job into the strike zone on that one. And yes, if they are going to call that a strike, then Jason Verlander is going to be pretty unhittable.

EXCEPT the issue is not where the ball is, when it reaches the catcher, who is well behind the plate, but where it is when it passes over the plate. Given the way the ball was dropping, and according to the graphic display, it nipped the bottom of the zone before passing beyond the plate.
