Jose Canseco signs with Rio Grande Valley

Not as a manager?  Huh.

Jose Canseco has signed with the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings of the North American Baseball League on Friday…

Earlier this season, Canseco played in 20 games for the Worcester Tornadoes in the Canadian-American Association. Last year, he hit .256 with eight home runs and 46 RBIs as a player-manager for the North American Baseball League’s Yuma Scorpions.

The signing comes three days after Canseco filed for bankruptcy protection in Nevada. The filing lists less than $21,000 in assets and almost $1.7 million in liabilities, including more than $500,000 owed to the Internal Revenue Service.

Despite his .194 average with Worcestor, Canseco did manage to hit a home run, the 558th of his professional baseball career.

I thought he was pitching now.

If he wasn't Jose Canseco his odyssey through the independent minors would be getting inspirational.

30 years ago he was on the Idaho Falls A's. In honor of Idaho Falls's amazing stretch of having a team in the Pioneer League every year since 1940 (except 2002), I say the Royals should sign him and assign him to the Idaho Falls Chukars, where he can take under his wing such future greats as Andy Ferguson, Jared Schlehuber, Adalberto Mondesi and Zeb Sneed.

Now maybe I'm being cynical, but something tells me this might be a publicity stunt.

Hope the bankruptcy fraud folks are giving Jose a thorough Dykstra review.

Jose Canseco is basically just trying to yell "I EXIST" at the world.

If you prick me, do I not juice?
If you sign me, do I not play?
If you cut me, do I not play somewhere else?

I remember his daddy's bizness, Sneed's Seed And Feed. Hell, I remember back when they were Chuck's!
