JS Online: Braun socks 3 homers in Brewers win

When you have a hr outbreak, it can feel like it takes days out of your life!

Neither the atmospheric conditions nor size of the ballpark mattered one bit to Ryan Braun on this night, however. Breaking loose with the most prolific power display of his career, Braun became the first player to hit three home runs in the nine-year history of Petco Park, leading the Brewers to an 8-3 victory.

With a chance to hit home runs in four consecutive at-bats, Braun had to “settle” for a two-run triple with two outs in the ninth inning, giving him six runs batted in to match his career high. Braun entered the game batting .263 with four home runs and 11 RBI.

“It was definitely special,” said Braun, who joined Fred Lynn (1975) as the only players in the last 50 years with three homers and a triple. “This is an extremely challenging game we play. You know you’re going to deal with a lot of failure, a lot of adversity.

“When you have a special night like that, you try to enjoy it. It’s definitely more fun and enjoyable when your team wins the game.”

What Leroy said.

Still, better than my (auto-drafted, just like this year -- computer issues in '11, utter forgetfulness this time around) No. 1 from last year: Carl Crawford. The horror!

Actually the only guys since 1950 to do it. Four other guys did it before 1951 -- including Tony Lazzeri with 11 RBI in a 25-2 win -- but otherwise it is a pretty random list.

EDIT: sorry, not sure why the BB-ref code isn't working for that last row.

It's crazy that he did it at Petco. Quick Pitch showed his HRs, they were bombs.

Did anyone else notice the fenced in area full of toddlers in CF where Braun hit his 1st HR? Is there a cover over that area? If not, how is that safe?

yeah, one of those toddlers stood there like she was waiting for a bus and totally didn't notice the incoming ball and mass of people going after it.

That toddler should have her bus pass taken away.

I was watching the Enberg FSN broadcast and he was 1/2 a sentence into a comment about Braun's struggles at the plate so far this season, before Braun slammed his 1st HR. Homer #2 was about as impressive as Upton's bomb at PETCO last year.

Somebody should test that guy.
