Junior Rangers more than offset lack of a trade jolt

Because everyone could use a little more fluff.

The non-waiver trading deadline came and went. The money changers in the baseball temple exchanged their gold.

The Red Sox traded for big-time hitter Victor Martinez. The Angels welcomed back Torii Hunter and Vladimir Guerrero. The White Sox grabbed Jake Peavy.

And the Texas Rangers, having been rebuffed by pitcher Roy Halladay, announced that any changes that would be made for the final two months of the season would probably come from within.

The old rabbit out of the hat routine.

Except they keep doing it, as Thursday’s 7-2 victory over the New York Yankees showed us again.

I've been very surprised at how well Elvis Andrus has hit this year.I spent the whole off season saying that he was being rushed, and it looks like I was wrong.

So far, Feliz is just filthy. Christ, that's a stat line.

Holland has been more than tolerable.

Borbon looks useful.

What the hell happened to Chris Davis?

Quick tip: probably don't use "money changers" and "temple" in the same sentence...

Eh?

It's also pretty funny to see Lebreton honoring the Rangers as some small market team competing against the behemoths, especially after he wrote this column:

The Athletics, of course, have become baseball’s darlings of overachievement. Masters of the responsible payroll. Paragons of the model farm system.

Didn’t you read Moneyball? Athletics, good. Tom Hicks and his wallet, bad.

Or so baseball wants us to believe.

Unfortunately, Hicks lost his wallet.

What the hell happened to Chris Davis?

Funny how he had to go to OKC to figure out his swing. I figured The Bestest Hitting Coach In Baseball would have been a bigger help.

And the Rangers have signed Ryan Freel!

Yes, what could that possibly mean? For that matter, the Rangers welcomed back Michael Young and Kevin Millwood.

Barbarino didn't make it through waivers.
