I'm only listening on the radio, but this is glorious, Yay Johan.

One of my favorite Opening Day memories is that time where (I think it was) Pedro and John Smoltz were facing each other, and they both were doing great, and they literally high-fived each other at one point.

You should try to watch just a little. The look on his face is incredible. I always liked him (and I picked him up for my fantasy team), but he's making me a huge fan with his affect on the mound.

Thank you, ESPN Gamecast, for giving us an option to not include people's twitter feeds in the play-by-play.

Here's hoping Strasburg gets lit up today.

Lester just got Fielder with a beaut.
   107. hokieneer Posted: April 05, 2012 at 02:16 PM (#4098194)
I always liked him (and I picked him up for my fantasy team)

Agreed. I took a flyer on him late in a 12 team draft. He was drafted and dropped in a 10 team league, and I picked him up last night (by dropping Morneau, hence the question earlier).

I wish I could watch the game.

No runs scored so far today over about 12 innings of play. We need the PEDs back!
   109. Dan Posted: April 05, 2012 at 02:18 PM (#4098205)
Pretty great pitching duel between Verlander and Lester, especially considering they're each facing a top 5 MLB offense.
   110. McCoy Wilfong for Money Posted: April 05, 2012 at 02:19 PM (#4098207)
Patio still looks useless. Apparently the money they'll generate from the ads will be used to pay for DeWitt down in the minors.

[105] You spelled Dempster wrong.

Johan Santana is Matt Diaz' #####.
   113. McCoy Wilfong for Money Posted: April 05, 2012 at 02:22 PM (#4098220)
Thankfully Bill Murray didn't break a hip sliding into first. Still a lot better of an opening day first pitch than Ali last night.
   114. DA Baracus is gritty and hits with RISP Posted: April 05, 2012 at 02:24 PM (#4098226)
Jeff Francoeur's career high in walks drawn is 42. Dan Uggla's career low in walks is 48.

Nobody is talking about Francoeur's ability to draw walks vs Uggla's ability to draw walks except you.

Last year Uggla drew 62 walks, close to double Frenchy's total in KC.

It was also his second worst total.
   115. Brian C Posted: April 05, 2012 at 02:26 PM (#4098229)
Xavier Nady made the Nationals' roster? Good god.
   116. Rickey Fredonia Fudge Duckery Precious Twiddle Posted: April 05, 2012 at 02:27 PM (#4098230)
Tommy Hanson is a terrible, terrible hitter.
   117. JJ1986 Posted: April 05, 2012 at 02:28 PM (#4098231)
Don't walk the pitcher.
   118. Rickey Fredonia Fudge Duckery Precious Twiddle Posted: April 05, 2012 at 02:28 PM (#4098232)
Wow. Walking Hanson. Bourn needs to make him pay for that.
   119. Matt Clement of Alexandria Posted: April 05, 2012 at 02:29 PM (#4098234)
Nobody is talking about Francoeur's ability to draw walks vs Uggla's ability to draw walks except you.
I'm talking about how they aren't similar hitters or fielders.

I don't care nearly enough about it to continue if you care about the comp. You are free to experience Uggla as the return of Frenchy, I'll leave it be.
   120. Rickey Fredonia Fudge Duckery Precious Twiddle Posted: April 05, 2012 at 02:30 PM (#4098235)

Bad Michael Bourn. No biscuit.
   123. TomH Posted: April 05, 2012 at 02:33 PM (#4098244)
on Opening Day, so far 13 complete innings of baseball are in the books.

And a total of 0 runs have been scored all day.
   124. Brian C Posted: April 05, 2012 at 02:34 PM (#4098247)

Hooray! Steroids are finally out of the game!

Same old Werth.

The comparison was that they both suck. I'll repeat since you missed it: it's a superficial comparison.
   127. DA Baracus is gritty and hits with RISP Posted: April 05, 2012 at 02:39 PM (#4098262)
Tommy Hanson is a terrible, terrible hitter.

When he's at the plate it's like he's never held a bat before and doesn't know what to do with it.
   128. ColonelTom Posted: April 05, 2012 at 02:39 PM (#4098263)
Galvis - 2 plate appearances, 2 inning-ending GIDPs. We're going to see the pitcher lead off a lot this year.
   129. McCoy Wilfong for Money Posted: April 05, 2012 at 02:39 PM (#4098264)
Castro killed that ball!
   130. Gamingboy Posted: April 05, 2012 at 02:40 PM (#4098265)
For those who care: Bryce Harper is batting fifth for Syracuse today.

   133. Why Bloody Valdespin? Posted: April 05, 2012 at 02:41 PM (#4098271)
Well, GG, Johan. Get him a win.

How sad is it that Mike Baxter is the first guy off the bench?
   134. McCoy Wilfong for Money Posted: April 05, 2012 at 02:41 PM (#4098272)
These guys have to realize the ball isn't going out today in Wrigley. At least three hits so far out of 6 outs have been lost because of the wind so far.
   135. Lassus Posted: April 05, 2012 at 02:42 PM (#4098273)
I love Ruben Tejada. Great AB.
   136. Matt Clement of Alexandria Posted: April 05, 2012 at 02:42 PM (#4098274)
Astronaut Mike Baxter?
   137. Rickey Fredonia Fudge Duckery Precious Twiddle Posted: April 05, 2012 at 02:43 PM (#4098278)
Okay gentlemen. Go out and beat upon the Mets bullpen until they cry like little girls.

And one out turned into a hit.
   139. TomH Posted: April 05, 2012 at 02:46 PM (#4098286)
15 1/2 innings.

If (given good SP on opening day) the typical MLB team scores at least 1 run is apporx 26% of its innings, the odds of 31 consecutive non-scoring innings are less 1 in 11,000 (.74 to the 31st).
   140. Mike Webber Posted: April 05, 2012 at 02:48 PM (#4098294)
15-1/2 innings into opening day in four games, ZERO runs scored. The pitching is ahead of the hitting.
   141. Rickey Fredonia Fudge Duckery Precious Twiddle Posted: April 05, 2012 at 02:49 PM (#4098298)
A hit! A hit!!
   142. Gamingboy Posted: April 05, 2012 at 02:49 PM (#4098299)
The pitching is ahead of the hitting.

Lower the mound.
   143. PreservedFish Posted: April 05, 2012 at 02:49 PM (#4098300)
Does Reyes get that ball? Tejada seems steady but I don't think he's the rangiest of shortstops.
   144. Dr. Vaux Posted: April 05, 2012 at 02:50 PM (#4098303)
It's probably the weather or a fluke. Toward the end of the spring, it looked like offense was up.
   145. Matt Clement of Alexandria Posted: April 05, 2012 at 02:51 PM (#4098306)
Duda's a disaster out there.
   146. DA Baracus is gritty and hits with RISP Posted: April 05, 2012 at 02:51 PM (#4098307)
Matt Diaz still sucks too.
   147. TomH Posted: April 05, 2012 at 02:52 PM (#4098308)
Miguel Cabrera; what is the over/under for how many Errors he will make this year?
   148. Why Bloody Valdespin? Posted: April 05, 2012 at 02:52 PM (#4098309)
Strasburg is fun to watch.
   149. Honkie Kong Posted: April 05, 2012 at 02:53 PM (#4098311)
Looks a disaster.
But, 3 chances , 3 putouts!
   150. Matt Clement of Alexandria Posted: April 05, 2012 at 02:54 PM (#4098313)
No way should Uggla have been able to tag and make second, though.
   151. Gamingboy Posted: April 05, 2012 at 02:55 PM (#4098316)
First team to score today wins all of Boston's champagne that was left unused from 9-28-11.

Miguel Cabrera; what is the over/under for how many Errors he will make this year?

What's the most he could make without ending the experiment? 35?
   154. Gamingboy Posted: April 05, 2012 at 02:57 PM (#4098325)
Attention- Harper has gotten a hit! So let me know if I've missed anything else.

Somebody goes at least 5 innings of no-hit ball [ ]
Strike out of side [ ]
Somebody hits more than one dinger [ ] (Somebody goes the full Tuffy Rhodes [])
Walk-off []
Pitcher gets a hit [ ]
Bryce Harper gets a hit in AAA game [X]
Somebody hits a triple [ ]
Verlander hits 100+ [ ]
Umpire ejects somebody [ ] (Not named Bobby Valentine or Ozzie Guillen [ ])
Somebody has more than one error [ ]
   155. Matt Clement of Alexandria Posted: April 05, 2012 at 02:58 PM (#4098326)
Mets looking to break the seal...

Murphy's a professional hitter.
   156. Why Bloody Valdespin? Posted: April 05, 2012 at 02:58 PM (#4098328)
Odds the Mets can actually turn this into a run?
   157. Why Bloody Valdespin? Posted: April 05, 2012 at 02:58 PM (#4098330)
Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!
   158. JJ1986 Posted: April 05, 2012 at 02:58 PM (#4098331)

   159. PreservedFish Posted: April 05, 2012 at 02:58 PM (#4098332)
A run!
   160. Gamingboy Posted: April 05, 2012 at 02:59 PM (#4098333)
A run! A run! By the Mets, of all teams!
   161. DA Baracus is gritty and hits with RISP Posted: April 05, 2012 at 03:00 PM (#4098340)
This is the high water mark of the Mets' season.
   162. AJM Posted: April 05, 2012 at 03:00 PM (#4098343)

A run, finally!

   166. Why Bloody Valdespin? Posted: April 05, 2012 at 03:02 PM (#4098352)
Did Prince Fielder get even fatter?

I was going to ask if we can have LaRoche bat again but Werth is batting next which is just as good.
   170. Gamingboy Posted: April 05, 2012 at 03:05 PM (#4098358)
The Phillies have scored! The flood gates have opened! Raise the mounds!
   171. Why Bloody Valdespin? Posted: April 05, 2012 at 03:06 PM (#4098365)
These shorter fences are going to really help Bay's warning track fly-out total this year.
   172. McCoy Wilfong for Money Posted: April 05, 2012 at 03:06 PM (#4098367)
Chatter is fixed. So nice of the powers that be to let us know.

LaRoache sucks.
   174. McCoy Wilfong for Money Posted: April 05, 2012 at 03:10 PM (#4098379)
Dempster took 6 pitches while the rest of the lineup used up 16 pitches.

Delightful.
   176. Matt Clement of Alexandria Posted: April 05, 2012 at 03:11 PM (#4098382)
The Mets look really sloppy in the field.
   177. PreservedFish Posted: April 05, 2012 at 03:11 PM (#4098384)
So, do the Mets have a backup centerfielder?

Dammit, Torres.

The Mets look really sloppy in the field.

The 2012 Mets outfield is not quite the defensive equal of the 2005 Mets outfield.
   182. JJ1986 Posted: April 05, 2012 at 03:16 PM (#4098398)
I thought Constanza was a switch-hitter.
   183. PreservedFish Posted: April 05, 2012 at 03:18 PM (#4098404)
I thought Constanza was Jason Heyward's superior.

Cubs are gonna run out of bats if they don't get Strasburg off the mound.

   194. AJM Posted: April 05, 2012 at 03:26 PM (#4098443)
That wasn't even close.
   195. Why Bloody Valdespin? Posted: April 05, 2012 at 03:26 PM (#4098445)
