Michael Taylor should get recalled soon. I imagine Lind will start playing every game in left against righties. Strasberg should be able to return soon.

Nothing is going to make this loss any easier to swallow for the Nats.

At his post-game news conference, Dusty Baker said the extent of Harper's injury wasn't known. Made it sound like he hadn't had a MRI yet. Maybe, but I suspect that they have an idea of what the MRI will confirm.
   103. The Yankee Clapper Posted: August 13, 2017 at 02:08 AM (#5512251)
Harper reported to be walking in locker room with leg wrapped. Maybe the leg can be saved after all.
   104. DFA Posted: August 13, 2017 at 02:10 AM (#5512252)
I may not like Harper, but his injury is bad for baseball.

Rosenthal tweeted:

Ken Rosenthal
@BreakingSprtNws

BREAKING: Preliminary tests from #Nationals team doctors show that OF Bryce Harper has a torn ACL and PCL. MRI scheduled tomorrow.
7:39 PM - 12 Aug 2017

This isn't the real Ken Rosenthal twitter account -- it's a fake account full of bullshit reports (e.g., a July 29 report that Giancarlo Stanton had been traded to the Red Sox for Dustin Pedroia).

The Nats broadcast guy Dan Kolko later tweeted:

Bryce Harper is up and walking around without much of a limp. Had his leg wrapped below the knee but no brace or anything.

Adrian Beltre, 3-for-4 in last night's win over Houston, one Double, three RBI.

As noted, Beltre passes Wade Boggs in Hits, and is now 28th with 3,013.

With four Total Bases, Beltre passes Lou Gehrig for 18th all-time (5,062).

That is 20 kinds of messed up. Twitter is the worst media platform in the history of media platforms.

Charlie Slowes @CharlieSlowes
No ligament, cartilage or tendon tear for Bryce, termed a significant bone bruise of left knee. Placed on DL. No timetable yet for return.

WHEW! I guess.

Dammit! Thanks for the info.

Sorry about that everyone.
   110. Bote Man Posted: August 13, 2017 at 12:14 PM (#5512310)
I got fooled by the Ken Rosennthal account a few weeks back. The lesson: check your sources.
   111. The Yankee Clapper Posted: August 13, 2017 at 01:27 PM (#5512337)
I am slightly offended that in reviewing the reports on Bryce Harper's injury I have to wade through all the stories that seem to have their main focus on its impact on his fantasy team owners.
   112. manchestermets Posted: August 13, 2017 at 01:58 PM (#5512348)
There's some world class yelling at clouds from the Rays' announcers right now.

With another HR, Giancarlo Stanton ties the Marlins’ team record. Gary Sheffield said he was "very surprised" it took as long as it did for someone to break his 1996 team record for homers.

What team record?? Must be a real b|tch for Stanton to be toiling away in obscurity with the Marlins.
   114. Bote Man Posted: August 13, 2017 at 03:07 PM (#5512374)
Noted Giants ace Chris Stratton has held the Nationals scoreless through 6 innings. He has thrown 87 pitches. Still 3-0 Giants.

Meh, if he didn't want to keep playing for the Marlins, he shouldn't have signed a contract extension.
   116. LA Podcasting Hombre of Anaheim Posted: August 13, 2017 at 03:33 PM (#5512386)
Daniel Murphy pinch-hits with 2 on and 2 out in the bottom of the 7th, can't make it happen. The air feels heavy at Nats Park without Harper in the lineup.
   117. Bote Man Posted: August 13, 2017 at 03:56 PM (#5512398)
Hunter Strickland jogs in from the Nationals Park bullpen to the loudest chorus of BOOOOOOOs heard by the many beat reporters present. Now is the time for all good Nats to come to the aid of their team.

Anthony Rendon hits a circuit clout to score Goodwin, Giants 4, Nationals 2 in the 8th. No word on when Strickland will seek retaliation.
   118. LA Podcasting Hombre of Anaheim Posted: August 13, 2017 at 04:26 PM (#5512412)
Andrelton Simmons just made the evening highlight reel, again.

Parker Bridwell's been a fantastic surprise this season. A road sweep against the Mariners would go a long way towards helping their chances at holding onto that WC spot.
   119. Andere Richtingen Posted: August 13, 2017 at 04:27 PM (#5512415)
Not every day you see someone (Kris Bryant) score from second on a third-strike swinging wild pitch.
   120. LA Podcasting Hombre of Anaheim Posted: August 13, 2017 at 04:36 PM (#5512420)
AL WC2 race is pretty crazy right now. Tampa Bay lost, so they lose a half-game to the leaders, whomever it ends up being. KC is winning handily, Twins winning late, Seattle and Baltimore with early leads, Angels and Rangers with early deficits.
   121. Misirlou doesn't live in the restaurant Posted: August 13, 2017 at 04:43 PM (#5512423)
So, apparently, writers at MLB.com aren't allowed to use common sense.

Giancarlo Stanton connected on an opposite-field home run off Rockies right-hander German Marquez in the third inning on Sunday afternoon for his 42nd of the season, matching Gary Sheffield's total in 1996.

The homer was also the 250th of Stanton's career, making him the sixth-fastest player (in terms of games played) to reach that benchmark since 1913.

I realize P-I info goes back only to 1913, but given that the career record prior to 1913 was 138, it's a pretty safe bet we don't need the qualifier.
   122. eric Posted: August 13, 2017 at 04:45 PM (#5512424)
Trout now has more BB (60) than K (59) on the season.

Trout seems to have become a bit of a singles hitter since his thumb injury.

Pre-injury: .337/.461/.742 with 23 singles and 32 XBH, so 58% of hits were for extra bases.
Post-injury: .358/.483/.621 with 23 singles and 11 XBH so 32% of hits for extra bases.

Overall this season he's at 48%. Career he is at 42%. So I wonder if that's just natural reversion to the mean or if the injury sapped a bit of some elevated talent level from a player entering his traditional peak years.

   123. cardsfanboy Posted: August 13, 2017 at 04:45 PM (#5512425)
Cardinals are rallying, now losing just 5-3 right now...bottom of the 8th.
   124. Sebastian Posted: August 13, 2017 at 04:45 PM (#5512426)
Tommy La Stella is neither pretty enough nor hard enough to use eyeblack.
   125. Sebastian Posted: August 13, 2017 at 04:48 PM (#5512427)
CFB, so what you’re saying is the cards are throwing away their chance of leading the central? I am shocked, shocked, I tell you.
   126. Andere Richtingen Posted: August 13, 2017 at 04:55 PM (#5512432)
Hard enough?
   127. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: August 13, 2017 at 04:55 PM (#5512433)
Diamondbacks are inexplicably playing "Shake it Off" by whoever writes songs for - er, sorry, "with" Taylor Swift during a challenge of a play at 2B. I now oppose all replay.

122- seething with Bryant. Although he's on a tear of sorts right now:

@ckamka: Kris Bryant last 12 plate appearances:
1B 1B HBP 1B BB 1B 2B BB out 1B 1B 2B
#Cubs

Both of those doubles, including today's, we're off the well placed variety, not the hard hot of the wall type. I think both were actually bloops down the RF line and he's too fast to stop at first.
   131. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: August 13, 2017 at 05:03 PM (#5512437)
Haters gonna hate

Oh, and I do.
   132. Andere Richtingen Posted: August 13, 2017 at 05:06 PM (#5512438)
Yeah, I was thinking how if you could do a similarity score for a player over a short-time period, Bryant would match up well with Brett Butler.

It looks to me like Caratini is very good at pitch framing.
   133. LA Podcasting Hombre of Anaheim Posted: August 13, 2017 at 05:07 PM (#5512439)
CJ Cron was hitting .395/.439/.711 in August. He just homered, and the Angels and Mariners are tied at 1-1 in the 3rd.
   134. Sebastian Posted: August 13, 2017 at 05:07 PM (#5512440)
Andere, you know, like looking like he’s looking for a fight. Yadier Molina looks like he’s the hardest man in baseball and then you go down the list of 750 professional players and Tommy looks like he is very low on that particular ranking.
   135. Andere Richtingen Posted: August 13, 2017 at 05:09 PM (#5512442)
I'm not sure we're on the same page regarding the purpose of eyeblack.
   136. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: August 13, 2017 at 05:11 PM (#5512444)
Yadier Molina looks like he’s the hardest man in baseball

I'm thinking that has more to do with the neck tattoos than the eye black. But I think there are at least a couple dozen Anonymous Relievers who look "harder" than Yadi.
   137. Sebastian Posted: August 13, 2017 at 05:12 PM (#5512445)
If you think that it has a purpose, then we definitely are not on the same page.
   138. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: August 13, 2017 at 05:16 PM (#5512448)
I did notice during the WBC that apparently the new trend among Latin players, and Puerto Ricans in particular, seems to be wearing a ton of eye black in a boomerang shape going down the cheek rather than just straight across. Not sure if it has any "purpose" or symbolism or whatever.
   139. Sebastian Posted: August 13, 2017 at 05:35 PM (#5512454)
It’s basically war-paint, isn’t it? There are so many fad-aids that athletes wore over the years (those nose things, the multicoloured tape, magnetic necklaces …) but eyeblack stuck around, because it can make the wearer look like a badass. But if you look like Tommy La Stella and you are Tommy La Stella then badass just is not in your range. Seeing him with eyeblack is not intimidating. It’s a bit sad.
   140. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: August 13, 2017 at 07:03 PM (#5512491)
A pitching change with 2 outs in the 9th, down 7-1. Managering!
   141. LA Podcasting Hombre of Anaheim Posted: August 13, 2017 at 07:14 PM (#5512492)
Angels win! A road sweep in Seattle!
   142. Bote Man Posted: August 13, 2017 at 08:55 PM (#5512504)
Max Scherzer had a no-hitter going through 3, but with hopes high he melted down quickly (for Max) in the 4th with a leadoff single to Span, a double to Panik (who has been seeing the ball well all series), and another single. Now 2-1 Nats in the top 7th after the Ryan Zimmerman solo home run in the 6th.

And Panda just tied it back up with a solo shot into the RF upper deck. Ho boy.
   143. the Hugh Jorgan returns Posted: August 13, 2017 at 10:05 PM (#5512516)
NY/BOS tied 1-1 through 6. Chris Sale doing Sale like things 6IP, 4H, 1ER, 10K. Judge K'd twice already. Is that like 31 games in a row now with a K? Is that a record is this one of these kind of common things one doesn't realise in modern MLB?

Sox need a few runs, I don't 2 runs will win this game.
   144. the Hugh Jorgan returns Posted: August 13, 2017 at 10:08 PM (#5512517)
The Brockstar goes down looking on the knucklecurve. Holt, utility guy extraordinaire is looking more like a one-hit wonder from the 80's...
   145. the Hugh Jorgan returns Posted: August 13, 2017 at 10:11 PM (#5512520)
And Boston goes quietly into the night for the 7th. Robertson with 2K, making the Sox batsman look very average at best.
   146. Bote Man Posted: August 13, 2017 at 10:22 PM (#5512521)
Extra innings in our Nation's Crapital where the Nats failed to send up a worthwhile LHB against Hunter Strickland in the 9th with his .344 BAA lefties. Still 2-2 in the top of the 11th inning of the 3rd game in 24 hours of this series.
