Kansas City Star: Soria leaves game with sore elbow after another rough outing.

SURPRISE, ARIZ.—The growing concern regarding Royals closer Joakim Soria escalated sharply Sunday afternoon when he left a game against Cleveland because of a sore right elbow after another ineffective performance.

What does "splunge" mean?

I love Joakim Soria, but I really wanted them to deal him this offseason if possible. He had a bit of a rough stretch last year that lasted nearly a month and seems to have nagging minor injuries his entire career. The shelf life of a closer just isn't long, Soria is about to be no longer cheap, and Greg Holland seems like he could probably close if he had to (or Broxton who they surprisingly signed). I hope Joakim is able to bounce back, but I am very concerned.

"Splunge" means that Joakim Soria is going to bounce back quickly to full health, but possibly not, and I'm not being indecisive.

#5 about sums it up for me. I love Soria, but he always struck me as more of a control pitcher than a guy with tremendous stuff. You wouldn't have to take much off of a Soria fastball before it would be hittable.

Here's hoping they figure out what's wrong with him. The game needs more guys like Soria.

It's somewhat surprising that he's still only 27. It feels like he's been around for a while. Seems like a good dude, hope he gets better.

So . . . rest and rehab? Tommy John?

Crud. The Royals' website says he's looking for a second opinion, which makes me think the first opinion was surgery. I guess a fixable injury is better than an unfixable one, but either way it sucks.

He's flying to LA tomorrow to visit with Dr. Lewis Yocum. TJ surgery is a possibility, but they'll know more after that visit.
