Kansas City Star: DeJesus agrees to contract

The Day They Shot a Hole in the DeJesus Nestegg…

Center fielder David DeJesus is now entrenched as a cornerstone of the Royals’ future after reaching agreement Wednesday on a five-year contract that includes an option for a sixth season.

Financial terms were not disclosed, but the guaranteed portion of the deal is believed to total about $13.5 million. The value will approach $20 million if the Royals choose to exercise their option for 2011..

And from the flaming lips of Buddy Bell…..“He’s not the kind of player George (Brett) was, but he plays that way — always with a smile on his face. I love that.”

DeJesus has got about 1 2/3 seasons of service time right now. Is that enough to have made him a super-2 player after this season? If this deal avoids him getting to arbitration a year early, it's that much better. Either way the deal seems really good, unless he turns into Angel Berroa. I don't see that happening with DeJesus.

This is how rebuilding teams should be spending their revenue sharing money.

Great deal. Best move Allard has made in quite awhile.

He deserves the money. He'll earn it chasing down all the line drives that Joe Mays gives up this year.

This makes me happy. He's one of the few reasons for me to make it to the K.

We just added a contract system in my Strat-o-Matic league this season, which ties individual players to their Strat franchise for the length of their MLB contract. DeJesus is fourth on the CF depth chart for my team, and I was on the verge of dumping him for a prospect to clear up some roster space.

Then this happened.

Good deal for the Kansas City Royals, bad deal for the Spanish Harlem Heat.

Wow, Brian McRae rates as a notable CF? He only played for 5 years in KC too!

When is lightening going to strike Karl Malone anyway?

This contract wasn't exactly telepathic surgery.
