Brandon Lackey?

Kendall posts on BTF..oops BBTF?

The people who make these decisions, and have made these decisions, have not been in those (on-field) situations before. It's disgusting to me to be in this situation. I get called out by Brandon (sic) Lackey. He disrespected me and I'm supposed to sit here and let Brandon Lackey yell at me. Hell, no.

Ha. But STFU, Jason.
   3. Mike Emeigh Posted: May 10, 2006 at 01:29 PM (#2012544)
I understand that I have to be suspended, but it's not like I went out and picked a fight.

Excuse me, Jason, but that is exactly what you did.

Kendall is right and wrong, no need to rush the mound

but someone needs to tell Lackey to shut up and throw the baseball, he thinks hes a bad ## hes not

"it's not like I went out and picked a fight."

Uh, Jason... you charged the mound. That comes under the heading of picking a fight. If you were just trying to spare us the boredom of watching you roll into another weak out, then all is forgiven. If you really believe that horse$hit that you're saying, then STFU.
   6. Nasty Nate Posted: May 10, 2006 at 01:32 PM (#2012549)
I read the ESPN story and Kendall comes off like an idiot. Hey Jason, learn to hit and maybe you wouldnt have to rely on sticking your elbow over the plate to get on base. He's 2nd among active players in HBP.

He says "I understand I have to be suspended, but it's not like I went out and picked a fight" Umm yah you did.

"Nothing would have happened if he wouldn't have said anything to me, if he wouldn't have taken three steps hard at me" . No, nothing would have happened if you didnt charge the mound, Mr. No-Homer.

"He calls me out and disrespects me and I'm supposed to sit here and have him yell at me?" .. Is that a trick question?

"So basically what Major League Baseball is saying is that any big league pitcher out there can yell at somebody and get fined $2,000. That's what the fine was" . Well normally MLB fines pitchers $0 for yelling at people. Only badminton leagues fine people for yelling, you crybaby.

Fights used to break out at Jeans West all the time, so I don't see what the big deal is.
   8. Nasty Nate Posted: May 10, 2006 at 01:58 PM (#2012568)
oh my god, #3, #5 and #6 followed the pattern outlined by TvE in the Jaffe/Sinins thread: Snark, Snarkier, and Snarkiest.

I guess snarkiest always takes the longest to type out.

In fairness, he got hit by plenty of pitches even back when he knew how to hit. So really, he just needs to relearn how to hit (and even then, it's just the absolute dearth of power; his OBP [.360; I know I was shocked too] is actually fairly decent, especially for a C). It's nice that he fixed his footwork on throwing out runners this past off-season; maybe he can get some work on his undercut on his swing the next few days and stop chopping down at the plate; he looks like he's trying to split logs half the ####### time.

Jason Kendall poops his pants.

Where does that fit in?

You know what's embarassing? .244/.360/.293.
   12. Van Lingle Mungo Jerry Posted: May 10, 2006 at 02:24 PM (#2012604)
Also, my inability to spell "embarrassing".

Stick that elbow out there, Jason.
   14. Cris E Posted: May 10, 2006 at 02:37 PM (#2012621)
If I'm Kendall I laugh and wave from first. The guy is hitting .240 and can't get the ball past second base so there's no excuse for not challenging him. Any pitcher who nibbles with Kendall at the plate deserves what he gets.

I'm about over the whole disrespecting thing. If he was really disrepecting you he'd pipe heaters across the middle of the plate and then taunt you as you slumped back to the bench. Anyone wearing a mattress on their arm with 200 HBP has to know they're aggravating pitchers as soon as they step into the box. I suppose Kendall knows it and is just defending his turf so the league doesn't move against it (like the diving rules in the NHL.)

Finally, if you're that offended that you feel a need to charge the mound, then quit ######## about penalties. Tough guys serve the time. (And tougher guys go visit Bob Watson in his office and speak to his face. I don't expect that to happen.)
   15. SuperGrover Posted: May 10, 2006 at 02:39 PM (#2012623)
LOL at #12.

Kendall comes off like an absolute moron.

A better man would have, rather than escalating a comment into a brawl.
   17. JMM Posted: May 10, 2006 at 02:52 PM (#2012636)
And really, it's only that .293 that's embarassing. Actually, it's more humiliating and offensive (the latter in the sense that one does not want one's slugging to be offensive). The .244 is underwhelming, but if the slugging was respectable, it wouldn't matter.

8 more total bases -- making four of his singles two homers and two more doubles -- would make make his slugging .390, which with the .360 OBP would actually be fairly respectable. But he just keeps chopping broccoli.
   18. Klobedanz Posted: May 10, 2006 at 02:57 PM (#2012645)
Haven't you guys ever heard "Coward of the County" by Kenny Rogers? You turn the other cheek too many times and your wife gets raped. Do you guys seriously want John Lackey to rape Jason Kendall's wife?
   19. Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Griffin (Vlad) Posted: May 10, 2006 at 03:03 PM (#2012653)
Kendall would make a great heel, but Lackey doesn't seem like much of a "face".

Eh, whatever. Kendall's a gamer, and if he's willing to work for scale he can have a roster spot on my team any day.
   20. JMM Posted: May 10, 2006 at 03:11 PM (#2012660)
If he was working for scale (or something more akin to it), we probably wouldn't be so persistantly annoyed with him here up north.
   21. Crispix reaches boiling point with lackluster play Posted: May 10, 2006 at 03:13 PM (#2012662)
What's embarrassing is being so bad that Pirates fans are satisfied with replacing you with Humberto Cota after trading you for what ended up being Jody Gerut.

As for Jason Kendall's wife, her name is Chantel.

I searched Google Image Search for "Chantel Kendall" and my only response was "WTF?".
   22. honus Posted: May 10, 2006 at 03:16 PM (#2012665)
For 11 and a half bones a year, you'd expect him to have more dingers than fights in his A's career. If anything, Kendall's SLG, rather than the suspension, is worthy of a 'badminton' league.
   23. Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Griffin (Vlad) Posted: May 10, 2006 at 03:23 PM (#2012669)
"I searched Google Image Search for "Chantel Kendall" and my only response was 'WTF?'."

I'm guessing those weren't meant for public consumption. Is Chantel currently pregnant, or was that kid already born?

"If he was working for scale (or something more akin to it), we probably wouldn't be so persistantly annoyed with him here up north."

Yeah, y'all have a legitimate right to be peeved. It was harder in Pittsburgh, since Kendall lost his stroke as a result of secretly playing hurt at management's orders: a torn thumb tendon that needed three operations at the end of the year.

He basically fragged his career for the greater glory of the '01 Pirates. Keerist.
   25. Styles P. Deadball Posted: May 10, 2006 at 03:31 PM (#2012682)
If the Gatlin boys come calling, Kendall's answer would be to stick his elbow in front of their fists. We sure as hell know he won't do any slugging.

As for Jason Kendall's wife, her name is Chantel.

There were some pictures of her doing a charity thing on Athletics Nation. I think a Yahoo search will take you there. She is, as expected, pretty attractive. One angry A's fan posting on an Angels message board shortly after the fight informed one of the regulars that she was "hotter than anything [he'd] ever jacked off too." Which naturally prompted the reply of "I don't know, I've jacked off to some pretty hot women."

Oh well, I thought it was funny.

Jason Kendall has not hit a home run in the last 902 at-bats.

Ever see a baseball stat so pitiful that you think to yourself..heck, I could do better than that?

Jason Kendall's inability to go deep is one of them. I don't think I'd hit anywhere near .260, but I'm pretty sure I could lift one around the Pesky Pole a few times.

So Beane was getting damaged goods? Sounds like he got swindled even more than I thought.

wonder what happened to him?

I'll pile on too...

You think Jason Kendall goes yard during BP? Yeah, neither do I.
I betcha he also hits a bladed sand wedge farther than his 170-yard driver, which you know he calls the "big dog."

Uh guys, anyone bother to notice that Kendall had a .399 on base percentage in each of his last two years with the Pirates, while playing virtually all of the time?
   38. Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Griffin (Vlad) Posted: May 10, 2006 at 05:58 PM (#2012919)
"There were some pictures of her doing a charity thing on Athletics Nation."

The pics on that site are dead, unfortunately.

"So Beane was getting damaged goods? Sounds like he got swindled even more than I thought."

Kendall was still a productive player worth having on a roster afterwards; he just wasn't the reincarnation of Mickey Cochrane anymore.

I actually think the Pirates got moderately screwed in the deal, in that they ended up with Mark Redman. Redman was as catastrophically ineffective down the stretch last year as any pitcher I've ever seen. It was ghastly.

"We sure as hell know he won't do any slugging."

You sure about that? Link.

Next time they meet John Lackey should roll up 2000 dollars worth of bills and throw it at Kendall's head.

At one point, Sheffield attempted to pick up Kendall, but instead got hit in the face with his shin guard, opening a cut near his eye.

flailing your legs around while sheffield attempts to body slam you hardly qualifies as "slugging".

I'm shocked that Marco Scutaro's wife is the least-hot of the A's' wives.
   44. Vive L'Orange! (marck) Posted: May 10, 2006 at 07:39 PM (#2013025)
The thing I keep getting lost on in all this:

Lackey threw a friggin' curveball. So it couldn't have been the pitch that set off Kendall. It just makes Kendall look that much more like an idiot.

Man. I used to like the guy back in his Pittsburgh days. But what a supreme prick he's become.
   45. Crispix reaches boiling point with lackluster play Posted: May 10, 2006 at 07:52 PM (#2013045)
Fourth or fifth picture down.

Wow, she's tall.

Next time they meet John Lackey should roll up 2000 dollars worth of bills and throw it at Kendall's head.

Yeah, then Adam Melhuse will come over and start shooting at Lackey with a semiautomatic, and get sentenced to ten years in prison.

Lackey threw a friggin' curveball. So it couldn't have been the pitch that set off Kendall. It just makes Kendall look that much more like an idiot.

It wasn't the pitch that set Kendall off, it was Lackey yelling at him for trying to lean into the pitch.

"flailing your legs around while sheffield attempts to body slam you hardly qualifies as 'slugging'."

You sure that's all that happened? From the P-G's writeup: "The last time the two met Kendall delivered several uppercuts that left Sheffield bloodied after in a home-plate fight in Los Angeles." Link

If my memory serves me correctly, Kendall got a few good shots in.
   48. David Nieporent (now, with children) Posted: May 10, 2006 at 09:47 PM (#2013198)
Everyone has mocked Kendall for acting innocent, when in fact he started the fight. But what about this quote:
The people who make these decisions, and have made these decisions, have not been in those (on-field) situations before.
Does Kendall know who Bob Watson is?

That's exactly my point. People talk trash to each other all the time on the field. All Kendall had to do was ignore it and get back in the box. No issue, no suspension.

If I'm Kendall I laugh and wave from first.

If you are Kendall, you will not be standing on first.

Your stupidity knows no bounds.

He isn't the one who traded for a catcher that couldn't hit a ball out of a little league park.
   54. Johnny Slick Posted: May 11, 2006 at 01:24 AM (#2013870)
Dood, all Kendall DOES is stand on first. That's the entirety of his offensive value at this point, finding ways to get to first base. Whether it's a chopper through the infield, a 12-pitch walk, or an iffy hit by pitch, he finds a way to stand on first. Now, ask him to go anywhere other than first base and he gets a confused look on his face and tries to hit the ball directly at the second baseman, but that's another thing altogether.
   55. NTNgod Posted: May 11, 2006 at 01:33 AM (#2013914)
With another HR Wednesday night, Melhuse now has 2 HRs in his last 7 ABs.

Kendall has 2 HRs in his last 1004 AB :)
