Kenley Jansen to be sidelined about a month

Dodgers closer Kenley Jansen will miss about a month while being treated for an irregular heartbeat, a source tells MLB Network insider Ken Rosenthal. The timeline was first reported by ESPN’s Buster Olney.

Jansen was hospitalized prior to Thursday night’s 8-5 win over the Rockies, and after initial tests, he flew back to Los Angeles to meet with his cardiologist for additional tests on Friday. Jansen felt the irregularity at the team hotel and never made it to Coors Field.

Scary stuff - fingers crossed for Jansen.

I posted this in the Dugout--from the description and the meds, sounds like atrial fibrillation

It is a fib.

IaNAD, but I am a guy with exactly what he has - a fib that’s hereditary, lone, and starts to show itself in your 20s. That flavor of a fib isn’t particularly common and behaves different than old man a fib.

IMO, he’s getting bad medical advice. Ablations have a questionable track record for this type of a fib and if he’s already failed one a fib, he’s proving the point. If I were him (and I kind of am!) I’d go on antiarrythmics; at least to buy time till they improve ablation (it’s still relatively new) and make sure that you’re not doing some kind of long-term harm by ablating and reablating your heart.

IaNAD, but...

...I'm still comfortable declaring myself more qualified to treat this than the people who are actually doctors and have actually looked at Jansen.

Sounds about right.

Until you’re lucky enough to have an uncommon disease, you won’t get how smart you can get on it when it’s all you need to know. A cardiologist needs to know how to recognize and treat literally hundreds of disorders.

More specifically - he had an abalation and it bought him, what, five years? That’s a bad outcome.

Sorry. I saw a good opportunity to be a ####, and I could not resist. I know nothing about this topic and don't dispute anything you say. Hope both you and Jansen hold up well.

It is a fib.

No, I don't think Jansen is malingering. :)
