King Felix’s queen ripped off by teammate’s wife?

Drop the Baileys, Jack Bailey…and get down here to make your pick!

The wife of Seattle Mariners outfielder Carlos Peguero is facing federal wire-fraud charges for allegedly making nearly $180,000 in purchases using a debit card belonging to the wife of Mariners star pitcher Felix Hernandez, The Seattle Times reports, citing court documents and sources.

According to the report, Maria Jacqueline Peguero faces charges in the U.S. District Court in Tacoma of three counts of wire fraud, which could possibly cost her up to 20 years in prison. The report also said Maria Peguero is free on bond after pleading not guilty to the charges.

The charges, according to The Times, allege that Maria Peguero used a debit card belonging to Sandra Hernandez to purchase merchandise from Saks Fifth Avenue between June 26, 2012 and Oct. 9, 2012. The charges were filed by the U.S. Secret Service on Oct. 1. The Secret Service oversees the federal cybercrime task force.

While the complaint does not identify Hernandez or his wife by name, the Times says an annonymous source familiar with the investigation confirmed their identities.

From the article:

Maria Peguero, according to the Times, is the youngest daughter of late major league relief pitcher Pedro Borbon.

From the Seattle Times article:

According to the complaint, the purchases went on for more than three months, during which time Peguero contacted Sandra Hernandez to ask if she ever reviewed her debit-card statements. Hernandez told Peguero “that she did not usually review the bills because their finances were managed by a third party,” according to the complaint.

Carlos Peguero told investigators that he was unaware of his wife’s alleged purchases, the documents say.

The documents say Maria Peguero was arrested in 2010 by police in Edinburg, Texas, for allegedly shoplifting a number of items from a local TJ Maxx store. By agreement, the government and Peguero’s attorney have waived her right to a speedy trial in the current case. U.S. Magistrate Judge Karen Strombom gave the government until Dec. 30 to seek an indictment by the grand jury.

Pinch-buying for the daughter of Pedro Borbon... Sandra Hernandez. Hernandez.

Could be a few awkward moments at the next team picnic.

Could be worse. At least she didn't steal a baby, like Tabata's ex-wife.

Carlos Peguero has attempted to steal twice, and been caught once.

I don't know how many times Maria Peguero has attempted to steal, but she's been caught stealing at least twice.

I understand that, in both cases, we are dealing with a small sample size. Unfortunately for both Carlos and Maria, I'm not sure either is going to get many more attempts.

If her and Carlos split up over this, somebody should set her up with Ruben Rivera.

Peguero got a lot of time with the big league team for a couple years, which was a little puzzling to me. He was a swing-and-miss machine, although he did have power and surprising speed as well. He was out of favor this year, though, despite the outfield woes the Mariners suffered. So maybe these allegations had something to do with it.

She was just taking their old slogan to heart. She got the Maxx for the minimum.

Felix should damn well fire his financial adviser if he's got $180k sitting on a debit card.
