Kirk Gibson is fired up, envisions a title run

“I’ll give you an example,” Gibson said. “Look at the guys who went down (on a goodwill tour of) Australia for us. Why did they do it? It’s who we are. It’s who the Diamondbacks are. We’re committed to the game of baseball. We’re committed to the community. I’ll put our organization up against anybody’s in terms of doing the right thing.

“We had Goldy go down there, along with Patrick Corbin and Derrick Hall, our president and CEO. Who’s the other team got down there? Are they too (expletive) good? Honestly?”

Consider the latter another log on the rivalry fire with the Dodgers, who partied in the Chase Field pool after clinching the NL West, who will face the Diamondbacks in Sydney to start next season.

Well, take that pool pissers.

That's the thing. The Dodgers and Giants have this little rivalry that goes a long way back to brushbacks, spikes up slides and bat attacks. Not sure how Gibby and his boys are going to usurp that fire...

It's certainly not on par with the rivalry with the Giants, and it never will be. But in short windows there can be extremely intense rivalries between two groups of players and organizations that just don't like each other. Obviously the best rivalries are born out of two teams that are good at the same time for an extended period of time. Those can be fun.

THIS particular situation is just petty and stupid, built around animosities over bean balls and pissing in the pool. Bottom line is the Dodgers are better than the D Backs, and likely to be so in 4 out of the next 5 years. So the D Backs have to flail at something.

Arguing which is the better organization, or more civic minded over who made a trip to Sydney ? That's just dumb. If the D Backs season had lasted an extra couple of weeks would they have still made that trip ?

"All I know about the other team," Gibson continued, "is that sometimes they force a guy who can barely walk to pinch hit in the bottom of the ninth of a World Series game. What kind of inhuman monster does that?"

Especially after half their genius fans left because they knew it was only a 3% chance of winning the exhibition game anyways. I mean come on!

Well hopefully the rivalry never goes the way of Dodgers-Giants. What would Sheriff Joe do with all the bodies?

Before they followed the Dodgers and Giants out west and changed their name, of course, the DBacks were a big part of the New York City rivalry. Does nobody else remember the Staten Island Ferries?
